About The Farmers Arms

Situated in the pretty village of Shadforth, east of Durham, the Farmers Arms is a traditional country pub with quirky décor. They also have a large beer garden with five beach huts with under-table heating that can seat up to 10 people – ideal for customers who are shielding. Food is served lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday and Sunday lunch with menus offering classic pub grub with a worldly influence. Food allergies are catered for. They also have a Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea catering for larger groups such as hen parties, baby showers and birthdays. All cask ales are £2.50.

Today my wife and I went to the Farmers Arms at Shadforth for Sunday lunch I had topside of beef my wife had chicken breast , and honestly it’s the best Sunday lunch that I have had in any pub it was absolutely amazing, I can’t praise this pub enough simply brilliant, I had to have the apple crumble and custard and it certainly didn’t disappoint home made and beautiful, so Farmers arms see you next Sunday.

Went last night 6/10/26 for my dads 80th birthday. We Were very pleasntly Surprised with the 3 courses for £10 deal which we didnt know about. The food was actually very tasty for the £10 deal which. We had a couple of supplements to be added to the bill, which was still cheap. So overall staff great, service great, food for price really good. My only slight gripe was the steak pies were far too peppery. 8/10 overall Thankyou

Another Perfect Roast! Only Visit a couple of times a year when in the area but well worth the 450 mile round trip. Perfect Sunday Roast now with the addition Of Lamb Shank which was cooked to perfection. Portion Size well exceeds expectations and quality for the price point is exceptional. Super friendly and helpful Staff in a lovely setting is just the icing on the cake! Never dissapointed

First time visiting on a Wednesday evening and I was pleasantly surprised! It’s a nice pub with good decor and a great atmosphere. We enjoyed the 3-course set menu for £10 per head. The food was faultless with plenty of choice, though portions were a bit small. Just keep an eye out for the asterisked supplements, as they do push the price up quickly. Drinks are reasonable too at £4.80 a pint. Definitely looking forward to returning!

It was our first meal in Durham. And it left a lasting impression. 3 courses for £10. You can't find a better deal than this. And it was absolutely delicious. We ordered potato skins and salmon and cod fish cake for starter and pasta and chicken parmo for our main course. And apple crumble for dessert. Yummy. I will definitely be back. Owner was nice too. We had already left, waiting to catch the bus. He came to us bringing our apple crumble in a takeaway box. But we actually already had it with us. It's a must go if you are in Durham

We went on a Thursday steak night and we were served quickly and efficiently. The starters were nice especially the curry parsnip soup. We ordered the ribeye, the rump and the sirloin with blue cheese and peppercorns sauces ( which were plentiful and very tasty). All 3 steaks were delicious and cooked to our requests accompanied with chunky chips, salad, tomato and mushroom. A great meal ! Thank you, we will be back for sure !

Easy booking on line, arrived 5pm 5th September 26. We were given a very warm welcome and shown to our table. Drinks order was brought to our table by a very pleasent lady. Food as usual was very good. Supplement charges can get a bit confusing, can add up if the menu is not read carefully. Howerver a good meal, delivered by lovely staff at a very reasonable price. The only thing I'm not too sure about, is how dark the room can be.

Went with friends after a recommendation from a close friend. Lovely pub by our table there was a sofa behind us which everyone including the staff had to squeeze past was totally in the wrong place. The food was lovely, it was a very long wait from starter to main course, the soup was exactly 7 spoonfuls, more of a child’s portion than an adults, but the main courses were perfect cooked and hot but nearly everything had a supplement on if you had 2 or 3 courses and that spoilt it as they were £4 or £6 and more for steaks. Recommend you scrutinise your bill, we had an extra Guinness, large glass of Merlot added to ours and they charged £2.20 for table water from the tap!! Not in top 10 to visit
