About The Gatehouse Ale & Aloo

The Gatehouse Ale & Aloo at Tyldesley, just a 15-minute drive from Manchester city centre, is the northwest’s first Indian gastropub. It’s where the Best of British meets the Best of Indian serving a variety of British-Indian fusion dishes including small plates, pub classics and curries. Head Chef and Landlord Xavier Bastian spent 20 years working for Asha’s, opening venues across the globe, and has brought all his experience to bear on his new venture. The small plates include classics such as Lamb Seekh Kebab and Tandoori Chicken Tikka whilst special dishes Include Chicken Biryani with Cinnamon and Rose Water and Rogan Josh. There are also British pub classics such as Fish & Chips, Pie & Mash and Burger and desserts include an Indian-inspired Sticky Toffee Pudding with Cardamom and Star Anise. You can eat and drink both inside and out at The Gatehouse or just drop in for a game of darts or pool and enjoy a pint of Thwaites cask ale. Regular quiz nights too.

Came here on Sunday with our friends, service was great and food came so quickly. We had the platter and it was amazing, this is our second visit and we will definitely be back. England were playing and I called a few days before to ask for a table closer to the tv which they were able to accommodate so that made it even better! Thank you

First visit and enjoyed the service and food - friendly and great choice on the menu - wine very nice - beer no choice really on our visit just their own named beer which not my taste. Overall though good food and pleasant evening.

Our 4th visit to Ale and Aloo and this time we tried the sharing platter. Absolutely delicious and well worth the price of £22.50 each. Butter and madras sauces were so tasty. Chicken tenders moist and crunchy. Curly fries and keema chips were so nice with madras seasoning on them. Burgers delicious and even better with a dip in the sauce. Lamb tacos were just perfect. Staff polite and friendly as always, great attitude and customer service. Food was great, tasty, spicy and delicious, exactly what we were looking for. Appreciation to the chef, never disappointed. Will definitely visit again as still menu items not tried yet. Thank you for a lovely experience.

This was the very first visit to the Gatehouse for many years. Every time I drove past I kept thinking we must have a meal there sometime. Well I have to say we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were told the kitchen was very busy and it would be about an hour's which was a bit disappointing when we had booked a table for a set time but to be fair our meals were served within half an hour of us ordering them. The food was excellent and well worth the wait. I would recommend a visit to The Gatehouse for the food if nothing else. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning.

Fantastic Indian food with their own twist, everything was hot and delicious. The service was amazing too. Will definitely be back to have ago at the sharing board as it looked spectacular.
