About The Hare and Hounds

The Hare and Hounds in the picturesque village of Layer Breton, near Colchester, dates back to 1662. It’s a family friendly and dog friendly pub with bar, restaurant, two ensuite double rooms and a paddock for camping that overlooks Layer Breton Heath. Food is served at lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday and for Sunday Lunch and there’s something for everyone including plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices as well as a Childrens menu and daily Specials. The pub hosts regular events, including a monthly quiz night, and also has a private dining room available for hire.

It’s been a while since we had been to the Hare and Hounds but were really pleased we’d revisited as it was perfect. We were a party of 8, service was fantastic, staff were so friendly and the food was first class, food was beautiful, booking again for next week.
