About The Hopping Hare

The Hopping Hare is a privately owned two-AA-rosette restaurant with 20 luxurious en-suite bedrooms. It’s situated just two miles from Northampton town centre and close to the Althorp Estate, which provides much of the game on the menu in season. Executive Chef Karl Penny (ex-Waddesdon Estate in Aylesbury) delivers a Modern English menu which offers excellent-quality food at great-value prices. Where possible, produce is sourced from local suppliers and these are proudly name-checked on their website. The stylish bar has intimate corners and fireside sofas and the contemporary dining room is cleverly zoned to accommodate couples and groups. The Hopping Hare is a great choice for a celebration too with the popular Conservatory available for exclusive use for larger parties.

Fabulous meal. Good value for money. I had the steak. Best steak I have eaten in a while cooked to perfection. Didn’t feel rushed, service was just right . I’ve been to a few local places recently but this is by far the best. Well done everyone. We had a great evening.

Professional as always! We usually opt to eat in the bar dining area for a more casual meal but the service is still great. Tried the Sunday roast this time, beef well cooked, a good size portion but Yorkshire is huge! My vegi option wasn't as good as usual but they offered me and alternative or something else to add, however they feedback to the chef who appreciated my comments as I'd had a butternut squash dish there a few months ago which was absolutely divine! They did actually remove my meal from the bill although I said I was happy to pay as I'd eaten half of it and my comments were just feedback. A little nugget of a pub and restaurant in Northampton.

Absolutely stunning meal . We both had the pan fried chicken and it was the best ever. Easily matched if not exceeded the London restaurants we usually go to. Lemon Tart and sorbet to die for, in fact best ever. Can’t recommend more highly,

Four of us went on 16th July to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary. The staff were incredibly accommodating . Nothing was too much trouble. Professional as always. Service was great. Food was as usual perfect. I got a pleasant surprise when the bill came it was not as expensive as I thought it would be. Always go here for special occasions. The only place in Northampton where the food is consistently good.

We recently used The Hopping Hare for a buffet at very short notice, and I can't thank the team enough. The service and hospitality were excellent from start to finish, and nothing was too much trouble. Despite the short notice, the buffet provided was fantastic – fresh, plentiful, and enjoyed by everyone. The staff were professional, friendly, and accommodating throughout the process. I would highly recommend The Hopping Hare to anyone looking for great food and outstanding customer service. Thank you to the whole team.

Celebration for birthday we all had fish & chips was absolutely lovely perfectly cooked/presented. Large meal & good value for money. Staff attentive & regular checks to ensure we were OK. Very clean & everything looking new. Great seats as requested near window/no stairs. Absolutely no complaints will revisit.

To celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary we chose the hopping hare for an afternoon tea for 20 guests. The food was fresh and tasty and beautifully presented and everything was handled from beginning to end by Sarah who we are eternally in her debt for the wonderful service you gave us. Best Sunday lunch by a country mile

A little bit disappointed yesterday. The ‘whole you wait’ starter didn’t arrive with the bread and as no one came to check on our table we finally got the bread just before the mains arrived. Most of the food was lovely but one of the roast chicken dishes had pink/red meat in it. We did show the waitress but she just said ‘I’ll let the chef know’ and that was it. We didn’t feel like the service was attentive and this was a worry about the food.
