About The Hopping Hare

The Hopping Hare is a privately owned two-AA-rosette restaurant with 20 luxurious en-suite bedrooms. It’s situated just two miles from Northampton town centre and close to the Althorp Estate, which provides much of the game on the menu in season. Executive Chef Karl Penny (ex-Waddesdon Estate in Aylesbury) delivers a Modern English menu which offers excellent-quality food at great-value prices. Where possible, produce is sourced from local suppliers and these are proudly name-checked on their website. The stylish bar has intimate corners and fireside sofas and the contemporary dining room is cleverly zoned to accommodate couples and groups. The Hopping Hare is a great choice for a celebration too with the popular Conservatory available for exclusive use for larger parties.

We stayed a night here and decided as it was a Sunday we would book a table and try their Sunday Roast. The food was fantastic. We both had the beef, it was melt in your mouth gorgeous. The veg cooked to perfection, the homemade Yorkshire pudding excellent and had a nice Jus (gravy to us commoners!). The desserts were equally high quality. The staff were excellent as well. Heartily recommended.

We had a family weekend here in 2025 and came back again in 2026 it was so good! Nothing is too much trouble for the team despite the complexities of groups arriving at different times, children, elderly etc . The food is super quality, quantity and a great choice and we ate loads ...all of us will go home very full:-D. Cannot recommend enough.

Family evening meal to celebrate a 70th birthday. Have been several times and always pleased with the friendly service from the waiter and waitresses. Varied selection on the menu and the food is consistently served hot and well presented. Our party of ten had their meals served together which was nice. Everyone in our party seemed very happy. Hope to return again soon. Thank you to the waiter and chef.

Been here a few times and always had a lovely meal, however this time the only good thing about it was the staff,,very welcoming and helpful!!! The Sunday dinner was awful,,, when I go out for a roast i expect proper homemade roast potatoes not auntie Bessie ones,,the broccoli was raw,, the belly pork was to tough to eat ,the jus that they covered the meal in was just to sweet ,,making the meal uneatable!!
