About The Hopping Hare

The Hopping Hare is a privately owned two-AA-rosette restaurant with 20 luxurious en-suite bedrooms. It’s situated just two miles from Northampton town centre and close to the Althorp Estate, which provides much of the game on the menu in season. Executive Chef Karl Penny (ex-Waddesdon Estate in Aylesbury) delivers a Modern English menu which offers excellent-quality food at great-value prices. Where possible, produce is sourced from local suppliers and these are proudly name-checked on their website. The stylish bar has intimate corners and fireside sofas and the contemporary dining room is cleverly zoned to accommodate couples and groups. The Hopping Hare is a great choice for a celebration too with the popular Conservatory available for exclusive use for larger parties.

Food was very nice, great Sunday lunch and four of us all had a roast dinner. Unsure if there was a staffing shortage but service could have been much better as generally very slow. Staff were however very friendly.

We visited the Hopping Hare with a couple of friends for the first time on Saturday 17th October 2026 and we were very impressed with the nicely set tables , tasteful decor and immaculately clean toilets. We all had different meals from the menu and none of us was disappointed. The lamb I had was tender and succulent and the creamy potato mash that was piped into a professional swirl was smooth and creamy and we were all served by a very friendly attentive waitress. I have nothing whatsoever to complain about and will certainly be adding The Hopping Hare to our favourite ‘go to’ places in the future.

We had read previous reviews for The Hopping Hare and I can say we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. Although we chose the tasting menu, which was exceptional, we were torn between the excellent choices on the main menu. We would thoroughly recommend The Hopping Hare as a first class establishment.
