After a recent makeover, The Horse and Chains on Bushey High Street has been given a fresh and quirky new look, revitalising this traditional old pub, which dates back to the 17^th century. You can dine inside or out and their home-cooked meals use the best locally sourced ingredients. Expect their take on a traditional British menu infused with a taste of their native city Durban. The chicken wings are legendary. Food is served from 4pm Tuesday to Thursday and from 12 noon Friday to Sunday.

Sunday Lunch Lovely lunch, friendly staff, great atmosphere

Had a lovely Mother’s Day meal. Superb roast lamb lunch. Everything hot and cooked to perfection, fluffy potatoes with an outside crunch, fab doey Yorkshire pudding, excellent lamb, served with a separate bowl of perfectly al dente buttered vegetables and lovely rich gravy and mint sauce. Really can’t fault and friendly staff. I wouldn’t go for the fig starter, however, as the fig wasn’t ripe and abit tasteless but the fish cake was very good.

The Horse and Chains is a great pub and great atmosphere, with excellent service . However, the Sunday Dinner was not as expected for the price. The vegetables were amazing, but the meat was not great quality. I have always had Sunday lunch over over the last 4 years at the pub, and the food quality matched the cost. A minor detail but important to some is there was no English mustard, even though we asked for it and was given American mustard, which is very different. The desert was not home-made as they used to be, which was disappointing. My suggestion to improve the quality of the meat, introduce home made puddings, which will improve the overall quality of the dinner.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and good background music. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The menu was really nice , with a good selection of choices. I chose red snapper and it was delicious. Will definitely be returning!
