About The Malthouse

The Malthouse at Ironbridge sits right on the banks of the River Severn with views out over the world’s first iron bridge. It’s a family run, contemporary pub with a relaxed atmosphere and an international menu taking inspiration from street food from across the globe. Craft ales, cocktails and select wines complement the food and The Malthouse also has live music every weekend making it the perfect place to spend your Saturday night. It’s family friendly and pet friendly and If you fancy an overnight stay, there are 12 B&B rooms.

The food was very good and the staff pleasant and friendly. However, I ordered a Tempranillo wine and when it came it tasted like vinegar. I very quietly took it back to the bar and it turned out that what I had been served was cooking wIne which actually had ‘do not use’ on the front of the bottle. The man apologised and poured me a correct glass. My bigger issue here, is not the mistake, but the fact that I could have ordered one thing of choice and got anything of differing tastes and price and been charged for Tempranillo. It appears that it matters not what you order, they just pour a red, white or rose of whatever bottle is to hand. It’s a shame that happened but they were very apologetic and lovely staff.

Booked here for my partner 85th birthday we were shown to a room called the Snug it was a dark room with one small window with only the 7 of us in it the food was way overpriced a steak a mushroom half a tomato and fries a small steak may I say .I would not recommend this place for a special Birthday I feel we was tucked away

The restaurant was nice & a good atmosphere plus great location. Staff were welcoming on arrival. Service was ok - took a while to clear our plates after eating. The food was ok but not amazing. Very strange Yorkshire pudding and not a lot of veg. The ham & carrots were nice. Treated myself to a pudding and was disappointed- didn’t take anything like the description. I think if the meal hadn’t cost what it did then I might go back but I wouldn’t want to pay that kind of money again for that quality food.

Extremely frustrated and disappointed with my experience. I booked this restaurant using an £80 Buyagift voucher. After booking, I never received a confirmation email, so I tried calling the restaurant several times and also contacted them through their website. I received no response. As the restaurant is over an hour away, I didn’t want to travel that distance without knowing whether my voucher could actually be used. I then tried to cancel the booking a week before, again calling several times with no response. I contacted Buyagift before the booking to explain the situation, and they advised that they needed to contact the restaurant to process my refund. Over two weeks later, I’m still trying to resolve this. The restaurant has apparently told Buyagift that because the booking wasn’t officially cancelled, they have no way of knowing whether I attended or whether the voucher was used. The only time I eventually managed to speak to someone at the restaurant was after Buyagift contacted them. The response I received was extremely rude, with the member of staff essentially telling me their system is incompetent and has no way of showing who actually attended or what money was spent. They showed no willingness to help whatsoever. So despite never attending this restaurant and never using my £80 voucher, I am now being told I cannot have my money back. There is apparently no record proving I used the voucher, yet I am still expected to lose £80. Absolutely appalling customer service and a very frustrating experience.

Had my hen do here yesterday, we had a buffet and it was lovely. Food was perfect and we didn’t get bothered during it, we were just left to enjoy ourselves. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

We were not very impressed. We booked a table for 1pm Sunday and the service just was not up to scratch. We didn't get asked once if our food was okay, we were not offered more drinks. We had to ask for the bill after waiting 30 minutes from finishing our food. The food was great though.

Really disappointing Sunday dinner experience. The food was nowhere near the standard I expected. The beef was extremely tough and difficult to eat, and several of the other items arrived undercooked, which was particularly disappointing for a Sunday roast. Unfortunately, the service didn’t help matters. The staff came across as rather snotty and dismissive, making it difficult to feel comfortable or valued as a customer. When you’re paying for a Sunday dinner, you expect good-quality, properly cooked food and friendly service, and sadly we didn’t get either. Overall, a very underwhelming experience. The combination of tough beef, undercooked food and poor attitude from the staff left a lot to be desired. I certainly wouldn’t be in a hurry to return.

Had a bottomless brunch here over the weekend. Really good selection of cocktails and the waiter was brilliant, cheerful, helpful. Definitely would recommend
