Summer or winter, the Welland Valley is a beautiful part of the Midlands and The Old Red Lion at Welham, near Market Harborough, lies at its heart. This traditional country pub has been under the same family ownership for more than three decades and is open for food right through from 11.30am onwards, seven days a week. The varied and extensive menu has more than 70 dishes to choose from, including plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices, as well as a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Leather sofas round the log fire are a real draw in the winter and year-round it’s a great place to relax and refuel after a stroll on one of the area’s many footpaths and bridleways. Come for a meal or just a drink in the recently refurbished Green Room. And don’t miss their ‘World Famous Special’ – two 10-ounce rump steaks and any bottle of wine from £18.99.
