About The Olive Tree Restaurant

Situated in the centre of Wells close by the historic cathedral, The Olive Tree Restaurant opened in September 2022. The restaurant has two ground floor dining areas – one looking out onto the high street and the other with an open kitchen – plus an upstairs dining room that’s ideal for private parties and can seat up to 32. The menu majors on British Modern and French-style cuisine.

For some reason I'd always walked past this place without really noticing it, but looking for places to take my mum for lunch, we noticed that the menu actually looked really good. So we went, and it turns out it's exceptional. First of all, they were hugely accomodating of us turning up with three children and someone in a wheelchair. The staff were lovely, just the right mix of attentive and friendly without being too in your face the whole time. The food was exceptional too. The mussels were huge and perfectly cooked, the whitebait were superb, and everyone else in our party shared similar thoughts about their food. Even down to the fact that someone in our party agreed to share a sticky toffee pudding with me, because we usually find them nice but too heavy and stodgey to manage a whole one, then both regretted our decision as it was light, fluffy and delicious. We both wished we'd ordered one each and shall do next time. I've eaten in quite a few restaurants in Wells now, and so far this one is by far the best.

Had a lovely lunch for 2 on market day, we had the moules frites, a white wine & coffee - all absolutely delicious. It’s a very comfortable, tastefully decorated, centrally located restaurant, service was excellent, attentive & friendly staff. Would highly recommend

A very nice meal for two. We both had an excellent beef carpaccio starter followed by, respectively, seared scallops and smoked trout both excellent. I had an excellent pear tart with bleckcurrant sorbet. Would definately return if in Wells.

Four of us booked here for an evening meal. Service was excellent - attentive but unobtrusive - and the food equally good. Only weakness was we were all vegetarians and one of the veggie starters (mushrooms) had all gone* so choice was very limited. *It was the Cathedral’s fault - Evensong went on too long and another diner beat us to it!

Had dinner here on Saturday night for the first time and will definitely be back. Great atmosphere and the food was one of the best meals we've eaten for a while. The sauces with both the entree and mains were delicious. Good value for money.

My husband & I had a fabulous meal at The Olive Tree. Food is always fresh, beautifully presented & good value for money. The Vegan Risotto was amazing. Good choice of wines to complement the food. There is a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant, not too many tables which is nice. Staff are super friendly, pleasant & helpful. It is always our favourite restaurant & cannot fault it. Always recommend to friends & family & look forward to returning.
