Family run pub with an extensive food offering situated just off the A5 southeast of Oswestry, next to the Montgomery Canal.

About The Queens Head

The Queens Head has been run by the same family since 2006. It’s situated southeast of Oswestry right beside the Montgomery Canal and just off the A5 as you head towards Shrewsbury. The pub is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon with food served until 9pm (5pm Sunday). The menu has loads of choice ranging from British classics like Steak and Ale Pie, Fish and Chips and Gammon Steak to international classics like home-made authentic Spanish Paella, Pastas, Risottos and freshly prepared Pizza. Meat is sourced from local butchers and the eggs are free range from a farm less than 2 miles away. There is a separate kids menu and on Sundays a choice of roasts alongside the main menu.

Good food as usual and attentive staff. For me, the only downside most visits is the noise in the conservatory. It is very popular but echoes a lot. Customers then talk louder to overcome the echo and the worsening cycle continues. If this is not acceptable, book in the bar area, if you do not mind, I highly recommend ear defenders or remove your hearing aids!!

Booking via the online system was easy and quick. We were welcomed by the staff who were very polite and upbeat. There was a good choice and a specials board. The food arrived in good time and was hot and plentiful. Mum was really pleased with her roast dinner. And I was pleased as it had a dedicated vegan menu with plenty of choice. The meals were averagely priced and we would definitely go again.

The food (a very authentic Spanish paella) was superb and the service was prompt and cheerful - very attentive, ans nothing too much trouble.
