About The Red Lion

The Red Lion is a thatched stone building that sits in the picturesque village of Yardley Hastings, southeast of Northampton and close to the border with both Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It’s an affluent area with several estates nearby, including Caste Ashby. Now under new ownership, this upmarket pub has a classic country feel about it with a modern twist. It’s also a destination food venue offering higher-end cuisine at an affordable price. Expect starters such as Pan-roasted duck with braised chicory, port, cherry and star anise or Mulled cider-braised osso buco with celeriac hash brown, oxford blue and sour apple and mains like Venison burger, Oxford blue, blackberry chutney and chunky chips or Gin and tonic-battered fish and chips with pea, mint and creme fraiche smash with juniper and lemon tartare. The Red Lion is open for lunch and dinner every day and you can eat in the restaurant or bar area – or al fresco in spring and summer.

Amazing find! Stopped on the way home and found the most genuine hospitality with exciting variations on a great menu. The entire place filled with genuine people who really care! Maybe I should not post this as others find out about it we will struggle to get a table. Been twice and absolutely no change in the excellence of the place!

What an absolutely amazing experience - we had the good fortune of eating here on Saturday night after recommendations from friends of ours. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we were blown away with what the new owners have done. The decor has been thought through, creating an inviting and cozy place to eat - we loved the few quirky ornaments (especially the little dog) that have been subtly placed around. Now the food, I ordered the Turnworth, which came out smelling delightful and, oh my, was it just as tasty - I then had their Fennel and Red Pepper risotto, the sauce that was underneath was a tastebud explosion, unfortunately after the main and starter I couldn’t fit in a dessert. Prices were exceptional, they support local and independent business and you can tell by the quality. All in all 5 stars, we re-booked to go back in that night and we can’t wait!! A huge hit to the owners, well done!

Wow! What a place! This was mine and my wife's second time since The Red Lion re-opened, and we were very impressed! We are real foodies and this place has cracked it! The atmosphere and decor are lovely, very cosy and inviting and all the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The food was incredible! Beautifully cooked with such rich flavours, not to mention the wonderfully refined presentation. It makes such a nice change to go to a pub in Northamptonshire and experience a menu which has been well designed and perfectly executed instead of the usual 'pub grub'. If you're into your food, this is definitely a place to visit, you won't be disappointed. Huge congratulations to the new owners and team at The Red Lion. We'll definitely be recommending you to all our friends and family, and wish you the most amount of success in these tough times. See you again very soon.

Very welcoming when we walked in the pub and the place was beautifully decorated. Warm and cosy. Loved the front house staffs smiles and welcoming attitude. The good was extremely good. Definitely the most satisfying meal in Northamptonshire and best ones I’ve ever had in years. Unusual to have this level of food in this county so I was very surprised. Definitely go back for more. Strongly recommend to all foodies!!!

We booked for a birthday lunch and had high expectations after the online write ups. It’s fair to say these expectations were blown out of the water from start to finish. The place itself is stunning and we were made super welcome. We had our hearts set on the gin and tonic fish and chips which weren’t on the menu this lunchtime. That wasn’t a problem though and the waitress/chef were very accommodating. The food itself was beautiful. Super presentation and just the right amount leaving room for the equally stunning sticky toffee pudding. Amazing place and amazing staff. The Red Lion get it bang on!

We had a lovely evening at the Red Lion. What a friendly, professional and enthusiastic team! We were greeted warmly and Elle was attentive throughout the meal. Food was delicious, beautifully presented and cooked perfectly. We finished off with Espresso Martinis which were the best we’d tasted. We’ll definitely be returning and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who took us to our table, the pub is decorated lovely and has a nice atmosphere. We then ordered our food and drinks.both menus have enough choice to keep everyone happy. Donna ordered her favourite G & T Brockmans and I had a brew dog zero Punk AF, now onto the food and we were spoiled for choice. We ended up sharing the starters and both of them were superb. ( Panko Fried Tunworth & Mackerel Pate ) and for main I went for the Venison Burger and Donna had the Gin & Tonic Battered Fish & Chips again both looked and tasted wonderful, The chips are outstanding. We then had another round of drinks before having our chosen dessert again these looked and tasted amazing, Donna had the Chocolate Decadence and I had the Cheese Board again both were lovely. I take my hat off to the team at the Red Lion for having the courage to open up a new business at this time, I hope it all works out for them. To finish get yourself over to this lovely pub and enjoy an excellent meal with them.
