I have been to this restaurant a number of times recently based on recommendations from friends. The restaurant is really superb in every way and every time I visit I am equally amazed that this kind of quality is available in South Wales at such a reasonable price. I'm told that the chef has some really impressive experience and this really shows in the quality of the food and the consideration that has gone into the menu. Whilst it's a 15 minute drive from both Cardiff and Newport, it is most definitely worth a visit if you're in the area as it really is stunning.

I visited the Riverside Restaurant in Blackwood (also known as the Rock and Fountain) for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is impressive and the service was first rate. I had the haddock to start which was beautifully cooked and presented followed by the duck which was also very good. I did think that the food was quite pricy to start with but after enjoying my meal so much and not being able to find fault with it, I concluded that it was well worth the money. I was too full for dessert but the menu looked equally as appetising; I canâ€™t wait to try the vanilla cheesecake with mulled wine when I go back in a couple of weeks.

Decor was excellent. The food was amazing, had my steak cooked just as I liked it. The staff were very friendly and helpful despite there not being many of them. Good discount deals offered through the week. I have also sampled the sunday lunch menu which is also very nice but a little expensive. All in all a good experience and I will be returning.
