About The Royal George

The Royal George at Cottingham, between Corby and Market Harborough, can lay claim to be one of the oldest inns in the country with parts of the building dating back to the thirteenth century. It enjoys a superb countryside location and has five letting rooms so you can use it as a base to explore the picturesque Welland Valley. The pub sits at the heart of the local community and offers British comfort food with Portuguese flair. As a Free House, The Royal George selects the best cask ales from near and far as well as stocking an eclectic selection of craft beers, wines and spirits. The inn has a beer garden to make the most of the surroundings and room rates start from £70, including breakfast.

Pity the website failed to inform potential customers that it was not open for business because it is undergoing a change of management. We turned up at the appointed time to be greeted by an embarrassed new owner.

My wife and her friends had booked and arrived at the restaurant only to find that it was closed, yet again . This was Friday 15th November 2024, what a disgrace!!

The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, the mix of Britsh and Portuguese dishes was spot on and the service was fantastic - so friendly and welcome. This pub is definitely making a come back and we'll worth a visit.

Called in on a Friday lunchtime for a meal. Met by a very friendly lady who showed us to our table. Very nice setting and it’s a cracking village pub with plenty of history and character. The service was excellent and the food was just as good. All very well presented and cooked to perfection. Not to overpriced in my opinion as you could tell a lot of effort had gone into the presentation and it all tasted delicious. We will definitely be going back. Lovely decking area outside with plenty of tables should you wish to eat outside or just have a drink. I believe the pub has just changed hands earlier this year so the new owners should be proud of themselves. Couldn’t fault the service or the food so definitely one to visit again.

Beautiful food, freshly prepared. Chef Tomas is stand out and deserves the plaudits (and his young 15 year old apprentice is destined for GREAT things). Not too pricy, but wine list could be more comprehensive.
