About The Smokey Cow

Formerly the Seven Stars, this village pub in Beckbury on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border has been given a complete renovation by new owners The Craft & Jam group. Now known as The Smokey Cow, it boasts a light and spacious restaurant with a social bar as the centrepiece and a log burner to cosy around in winter. Expect classic homemade meals, authentic smoked pit BBQ and pies ranging from beef to full of greens to gluten-free; all served with traditional sides (with some funky twists) and good ale in a rustic rural location. Live music on Fridays too.

We went here on a recommendation and we are glad we did we had a family party for my sons 40 th birthday food was good and everyone was really friendly

As much as this place looks nice the food was the worst I tried this year… and prices really didn’t reflected what we received on our plate! Let’s start from the chicken and Pulled beef Bao buns for a starter… Chicken had more coating than actual meat which is really frustrating. And don’t get me start with the Bao Buns… pulled beef the hint in the name right!? Instead I received the cut offs of roasted beef -chewy, no seasoning not even tiny bit of lettuce or something - but no! just plain Bao bun, soaked in sriracha sauce and chewy beef slice….my lips were still burning by the next day! Steak and chips looked ok but had to remind about the side sauce. I ordered the pulled beef brisket! Again! This is not pulled beef brisket! Pulled brisket should fall apart, melt in your mouth l, be juicy! I received in my plate same beef slices as I got in my bun ! Best thing about my meal was chips! Beans were cold as well. True disappointment! They either don’t had chef that day or this place go down the hill! And the bonus from all this me and my mates stomach wasn’t the bestest that evening after we were back from dinner.. what a Saturday! Owners should get back on track very rapidly! Otherwise it is close to disaster

We went here on a friday evening as a spur-of-the-moment date night with my partner. The pub was very nice, gentle lighting throughout and a very relaxed atmosphere with a log fire in the centre of the pub, warming us and drying us out on a typical winters night. We drank lager, cold and refreshing and the staff where lovely. I ordered a chicken, leek and ham pie, my partner ordered a cowboy pot-pie. The food was very nice although I received the 5-bean pie instead of the chicken. No issue was raised as I actually enjoyed the meal but this could cause dietary issues if a non-meat eating person ordered the vegetarian option and received a chicken pie. The sides we ordered where very nice and freshly prepared and we didn't have dessert this time but will be sure to try them on our next visit.

Lovely meal. Exceptional value with the kids deal for a £1.50 meal. Great time for all

Pub Review: Great Atmosphere, Needs Menu/Value Adjustments The pub is really nice and welcoming with excellent service and a great atmosphere. The Brisket Roast was a major highlight: exceptional, very tender, and the portion size was generous. However, there are a few areas for improvement: Menu Suggestions Roast Chicken: The half-chicken portion is difficult to eat, especially on a roast, and many customers prefer boneless meat. I strongly suggest adding a boneless chicken breast option to the menu. Value and Portions Side Dishes: The portion sizes for sides need improvement. The £4 Cauliflower Cheese Bake was mostly sauce and only contained about four small florets of cauliflower, which felt like poor value for the price. Overall Pricing: I felt the general pricing was slightly unreasonable. Increasing side portions would significantly help the perception of value. I would go again for the atmosphere and the brisket, but I'd likely choose a different dish next time.

We had a lovely meal there, there was 4 of us, friendly atmosphere, and clean, there is plenty of room in the pub, and the car park is quite big aswell the staff are all ways happy to help.

Beautiful place, super clean, friendly staff. We ordered the brisket- it was super tender and tasted delicious. We had 2 lots of topped fries- both delicious. Mac and cheese was super cheesy, stringy and tasty. All in all a lovely meal!

I booked this venue for fiancés birthday on good review and recommendation. I took in excess of 5 minutes to be seat and we were only pointed to our seats stating ‘it’s over there’. We then waited nearly 20 minutes to be for a drinks order a further 10 minutes for a food order. We asked for the child’s meal to come out with the starters in order for it to cool down, this did not happen. The starters which were a plentiful portion of nachos with toppings were grey and bland, unsure how the taste was so absent. The mains were no better. The burgers could not possibly be locally sourced 100%. They had the consistency of a herons own frozen burger and the taste of a Frey bento meatball. My daughter’s Mac and cheese was the only dish apart from one prawn starter from 9 dishes ordered that had any fulfilling taste. The guitarist was a nice touch and was a genuinely nice bloke. In the experience we had, I would be hard pushed to frequent this establishment again.
