About The Smokey Cow

Formerly the Seven Stars, this village pub in Beckbury on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border has been given a complete renovation by new owners The Craft & Jam group. Now known as The Smokey Cow, it boasts a light and spacious restaurant with a social bar as the centrepiece and a log burner to cosy around in winter. Expect classic homemade meals, authentic smoked pit BBQ and pies ranging from beef to full of greens to gluten-free; all served with traditional sides (with some funky twists) and good ale in a rustic rural location. Live music on Fridays too.

Quaint and tucked away in the middle of nowhere but SO worth the drive. In my opinion it beats Hickory's. I went there with my partner for date night and we were not disappointed. Service was quick, the staff very pleasant and approachable, and the food was exceptional. We chose one of the sharing platters and wanted to change a few items. The staff were very accommodating and were happy to do this. When the food arrived it was as described and piping hot; it was the ideal sharing board for 2 people. Once finished, we got asked if we wanted to take anything home which is always handy to know if you have leftovers! Desserts looked really good but we were too full to entertain the idea of pudding! We definitely will be going back and make this our regular smokehouse. A MUST try for those who love bbq food!! (Don't worry if have dietary requirements as the menu does cater for these!).

Brilliant place, the food is just outstanding, for what you get it’s a good value aswell. The atmosphere was good semi busy good restaurant vibe and was lucky to have a live band which was excellent. Service is very good both servers were very polite and friendly always checking if we was okay and had everything. We are going back just to try some more of the items. Fantastic place

Booked a table online for 7:30, turned up and was told the kitchen was closed. Did enquire why it allowed a food booking if it was closed but was just told “yeah we need to update that”. A more proactive approach could have been contacting me when the booking was made to tell us the kitchen wouldn’t be open. Was prompted by email to leave a review following our visit, probably another thing worth updating. Very disappointing and lack of care for the inconvenience it caused.

Sadly our visit to the smokey cow for my husbands birthday celebration was extremely disappointing. The food arrived almost 2 hours after our arrival, even when most the meals came out my daughter waited another ten minutes for her fish. We were left waiting for drinks orders. There was a hair mixed into the brisket which was revolting. There was lipstick marks on the glasses. We will not be returning. Not sure why it was this poor.

Went for Mother’s Day Sunday lunch. Staff really friendly and food was lovely. Such a shame as although we expected it to be busy, we didn’t think we would have to wait over an hour for our food. Would have helped if we’d been given some updates to manage our expectations.
