About The Underground

The Elephant Underground opened in 2024 adding an exciting new location to Shrewsbury’s dining and nightlife scene. This cocktail bar and Mexican restaurant is housed in spectacular converted cellars just off Mardol and is open Tuesday to Saturday with a late bar until 1am at weekends. The menu, which is entirely gluten free, offers loads of choice with Small Plates, Tacos, Loaded Nachos, Wings & Fried Chicken and Messy Fries. There’s also Bottomless Brunch every Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 6pm and a regular Quiz Night and Open Mic night.

Disappointing. Food very average, chips so greasy the oil was in a pool at the bottom of the dish, meat bland. No atmosphere at all and very cold. Toilets filthy despite just opening for lunch. Shame as we were looking forward to this for ages, the food looked nothing like on the social media pages

The restaurant is in a lovely setting and decor is cute for light bites and cocktails. The service was incredibly slow though and it wasn't during a busy period so no excuses really. Food was average and lukewarm. The messy fries were a disappointment and definitely not worth the money that we paid for them. Cocktails were lovely. Very underwhelmed by the experience.

The service was brilliant couldn’t fault it. Young waitress who looked after us was so polite and friendly, we didn’t understand what something on the menu was so she went away and researched to find out :) drinks were lovely too, the food was ok, I wouldn’t rave about it but it was alright… it was a lovely evening though :)

Terrible experience, most the food was lukewarm. Some chicken bits were cold when bitten into, we asked for them to be taken away and they were returned to us having been reheated as the bite mark was still there! I did email in regards to this but no response. I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

The service from both J the waitress and the bartender was fantastic. The cocktails flowed and never stopped all evening. As they bought one over J took the next order. I would definitely recommend the venue.
