Hidden away on the north east coast in the sleepy village of Seaton Sluice, near Whitley Bay is grand hidden treasure. This manifests itself as a hotel/restaurant. But don't mistake nor overlook this as "just another pub". Far from it. The restaurant has a grand view of the coastline and lighthouse but with a hidden surprise of it's own. Newly refurbished to a good standard inside and complimented with real staff who enjoy their jobs is a refreshing change. My party of two dined here on 10 June 2011 with 8.15pm reservation as meals are served up until 8.45. A good welcome and shown to our table which was reserved. From that moment on things went up hill. We passed on a starter but having a look at the others as they arrived, I knew this was going to be good. Presentation was faultless, care taken and looked so fresh. Our main meals were a medium cod ( it's the seaside ! ). This is available in four sizes - small, medium, large and something called "the whale !". If mine was the medium, pitty help the larger sizes. It was presented beautifully. I only wish I could have real chip shop style chips - and my wish was granted. Crispy tasty batter, white cod, perfectly cooked, chips done to a tee and mushy peas with flavour and colour. All piping hot. Not a single fault. The second main meal was the king prawn on a sizzler plate with potatoes and carrots in a sweet chilli sauce with a fresh mediterranean salad which looked like it was straight from Delia Smiths cookery booked and should have been framed for it's colour, smell and presentation was outstanding. This again had been lovingly created and finished off woth fresh herbs. Both of these dishes have been created and prepared by a chef who cares and should be proud of the food he has served. Finished of with two coffees and biscuits, and a well stocked up we couldn't manage a desert. We also had two drinks with the meal and for a grand total of £32.20. This is by far value for money when you consider the outstanding quality, good service and portion size. Thanks to everyone in the hotel, you should be proud. To anyone passing, slam on the brakes, park your car and enjoy the best food the north east coastline has seen for quite a while. Don't miss this opportunity !
