Visited Tollemache Arms last Sunday for a special occasion Lunch, the Staff where helpful and allowed us to pick our own table of choice. The beer was perfect ( Dissy Blonde ) and would have ordered more if steering wheel duties hadn't been the issue. We ordered two Steakswith home made chips, the Steaks where cooked and presented exactly to our taste with the exception that mine was quite fatty! The Treacle pudding with Ice Cream was possibly one of the best we tasted which made up for the Pineapple upside down cake being unavailable ( sold out ). On paying the bill however a word of caution, make sure you check the items you are being charged, two drinks had appeared on my bill which when challenged the Male member of Staff begrudgingly handed back the overcharge without apology! shame that as this was going to be the staffs tip, my tip next time is get the bill right and don't let others walk with free drinks.

Visited today for sunday lunch.Such awarm welcome from the barmaid and a gentleman who i presume was the landlord.It had a lovely veiw of the countryside.Ordered 2 beef dinners with the gravy seperate.They came with 2 very underdone rare slices of meat on the plate.My partner gave the barmaid one plate back as i can't eat rare meat and asked if he could have it well done.That wasn't a problem and a few minutes later it came.My partner had realised that it wasn't beef it was lamb and my new dinner was too.We told the barmaid and she said it was beef.My partner told her he knew beef from lamb as he used to be a butcher.So she came to take them both away but my partner decided to keep his.So i waited again.The veg looked nice,but was sprinkled with black pepper or something,well not everyone likes pepper do they?By this time the veg was going cold the gravy was congealing nicely in the gravy boat.It arrived only to be put down in front of me with a strange smell to it.I love fresh roast beef but that was definitley not fresh. What a bad experience for us.Never to go back there again.We just left the food on the table and left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to the pub today 28/ for lunch never again the service was rubbish.We orderd lamb shank this was served so over cooked the meat was black the so called mash was slop and not sure what it was swimming in?.For desert I had the cheese board a lot to be desired. So we will not be going again.

overall, i thought that when the NEW management took over in the summer months of 2010, i thought that this was the beginning of the end for 'the tolle' and i was right.... the landlord was grumpy, ignorant, rude and a cretin. The food progressively got worse and on one occasion made me feel sick and the 'real ale' was not real and too bitter... might go back though seeing as it is the LOCAL pub

Lovely building, nice staff, presentation of food very nice, we had the cheeseburger - homemade and very tasty, the chips were amazing. The gardens are a pleasure to sit out in. All in all a lovely place to visit.

Having come off the M6 at J16 at Stoke -on- Trent on the way to North Wales, we stopped at the Tollemahe Arms, near Nantwich, Cheshire for a drink and a break which we have done many times The young person behind the bar had No interest in us, after been served the Hand Pulled Beer, which was warm and impossible to drink.The food was over priced and the content of the food would be at the local pub grub.We asked to see the Rooms and a girl from behind the bar took us up to our rooms no4 and no3.The rooms £60.00+ Per Night The rooms are so small and if the room went on fire there is No Way Out.This is got to be the worst run pub/restaurant in Cheshire.

The Tollemache Arms, a former farm building over 400 years old, has been trading as an inn since 1776. Once a decent pub, in recent years it went downhill and became something of a dive. Bought by the Stockport brewer Robinsons in 2008, the pub was closed for several weeks and comprehensively refurbished. What a difference. The whole building has been repaired and painted inside and out, the rotting conservatory has been removed, a new double porch has replaced the previous "lobby" area, and the rather labyrinthine interior layout has been made much more sensible. There's a games room behind the main bar area, with a pool table and other amusements. Sadly, the children's interior soft-play room has gone to make room for more restaurant space, but an extensive play area/beer garden is being planned for outside, once the newly laid grass has grown a little and the weather has improved. It's now a proper "local" again, with a thriving and increasing trade under the guidance of the new licensee Paul Collins and his family. There is decent beer again, and excellent food courtesy of chef John, recruited from the nearby Dysart Arms. I've dined there a number of times, most memorably on Valentine's Day, where a special menu with a distinct red theme was offered, and decor to match designed by Paul's wife Valerie. We had: A starter for two of chorizo and manchego cheese; duck for me and a mushroom risotto for my partner (she's vegetarian) and a shared dessert of a trio of crème brulée (vanilla, rum and raisin, forest fruits). The menu is well-priced and varied - my duck was the best I've tasted, and I've eaten in much more expensive venues than this. The dessert was a masterpiece. The wine list is sensibly-priced and has a reasonable range of wines to suit the menu, with nothing from the stratospheric end of the price range: we had a rather splendid rioja from somewhere in the middle of the range. If nothing from the standard menu tempts you, there is a specials board, and Paul is considering a few special events such as curry nights. The decor is simple and unfussy, with the traditional beamed ceiling given a modern twist by being painted in a colour I can only describe as "putty". The floor in the bar area is tiled, with a carpeted area with tables and armchairs for those preferring a more relaxed approach. Coffee is available at any time, and I understand Paul is proposing laying on wireless broadband in the "lounge" area. The dining area is to the rear, with well-spaced tables in various sizes. There are four bed-and-breakfast rooms available, too. The staff are friendly and efficient, and to top it all- it's practically on my doorstep! I can't tell you how pleased I am to have somewhere decent to eat and drink within walking range. If you've been to the "Tolly" in the bad old days, give it another try: it's a whole new experience.
