About Water Rat

Located in historic Ironbridge on the River Severn, the Water Rat opened in summer 2020 after an extensive refurbishment. This riverside dining pub has extensive gardens leading down to the river path and is the only waterside pub on this side of the Severn with gardens. The fresh, modern décor enhances the features of the original pub and there are six boutique ensuite rooms. The Water Rat is open every day and diners have a choice of relaxed bar eating, a dining room and a large patio and terrace. Expect traditional pub food with daily changing menus and a focus on regional and seasonal. The historic Ironbridge museums and visitor centres are within minutes’ walk of the extensive car park. The White Hart in Ironbridge is a sister venue.

I had the chicken pie which was lovely with big chunks of chicken and leek inside along with mash and fresh vegetables. Big portion too. You can walk into ironbridge from here and the car park is free. Lovely staff too What’s not to like!

We stayed at the Water Rat for a week which we thoroughly enjoyed. On the first night we decided to eat in the restaurant and enjoyed it so much that we ate there every night of our stay (except Sunday as it was closed following Sunday Lunch) We found plenty of options on the menu to satisfy our needs. My wife is vegetarian and was very pleased with the vegetarian food selection. The food was well cooked and presented and the serving staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent and offered a good selection, cooked and served to order.

Food took ages to come. We ordered fish and chips and we were told it was cod. Asked the waitress to check with chef as there was no way it was cod. Turns out it was Basa NOT cod. Batter chewy. Chips and mushy peas good. Had to order puddings at the bar as service so slow and no one to clear the table. Custard was in the smallest jug ever to go with the pudding.

What a wonderful and unexpected find. We were looking last minute for a nice evening meal in Ironbridge on Saturday night. Booking online was so easy and reassured us of a table even though it was 8pm. We arrived earlier than expected but there was no issue and we are shown to our table. The ambience was so relaxing yet sophisticated with a quiet atmosphere. Service was impeccable from every member of staff. We chose the sharing platter as that suited what we needed. Every element was carefully balanced and tasted so good. A lovely selection of scampi, halloumi, chicken thighs, sweetcorn fritters, seasoned fries and dips. We would highly recommend this excellent eatery and look forward to coming again when we next visit the area. Thank you

We booked a table for Sunday lunch. We arrived early and were graciously shown to our seats during a very very busy service. The food was delicious, we all had the roasts which came with fresh vegetables cooked perfectly. It was extremely busy….always a good sign resulting in a little delay between mains and deserts, which is certainly understandable. Our heartfelt thanks to the extremely hardworking service team for their impeccable work. All in all a very pleasant experience and one which we very much intend to repeat next time we are in the area.

It was quite busy and didn't seem to have enough staff.the lady test served us was very good but very busy. The meal was ok but could have been a little warmer. But will probably still return again
