About The Waterwitch

The multiple-award-winning Waterwitch gastro-pub is situated on the picturesque Lancaster Canal, a five-minute stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the historic city centre. Originally converted from purpose-built stables in 1978, it’s a destination for all seasons with a huge outdoor seating area for those lovely spring/summer days and a cosy log fire and twinkly fairy lights to welcome you in the colder months. A large range of high-quality dishes are on offer ranging from Great British pub classics to Continental cuisine. Sunday roasts are served every week and they have a good range of pizzas, burgers, and their very popular deli boards - perfect for sharing. Specials which feature over the weekend are a highlight too. The Waterwitch is also well known for its cask ales with rotating beers over seven hand-pulls. More than 70% of the ales come from breweries less than 50 miles away. There is also an extensive gin and whisky range and a vast wine offering. Allergies and intolerances are catered for and there is a separate gluten-free menu available.

Nice setting, we ate outside on the canal side in the sunshine. There was a long wait for food but they were very busy so fair enough. Most staff great, a couple a bit miserable. Food was nice enough and good value (sandwiches / chips). Nice ales. Would go again if in the area. Cheers!

We had a great lunch, moules, hanging kebab and fish and chips were all tasty, good portions and well presented. The queue for the food till was a bit tedious and at times dominated the bar so a better solution for busy times would be ideal. Staff friendly and welcoming and a great location

Excellent food - really enjoyed it. Would have eaten outside if the weather was better. Will visit again when in the area.

We came here for a group meal and the service from the point of booking was brilliant. Cannot fault the staff. Unfortunately, there was a lot of us disappointed with our food. The burgers were all really overdone and dry, likewise the kebabs. The starters were very good but the mains let it down. It was also freezing inside. Beautiful setting on the canal.

Staff exceptionally helpful. Would go there again.

Lovely little place for a drink maybe but food was average, aranchini made with mushy overcooked rice, nacho sauces all out of a box however generous with cheese! The atmosphere was lovely, it was so nice to just sit by the canal

Really enjoyed our visit. Great friendly place to eat. I informed the staff of my onion allergy and when I arrived there was a list of all the items I could safely eat. Such a relief. Thank you

We booked a table for 8.30 and when we got there we were told we would need to order quickly as they stopped cooking at 9pm. We ordered starters: 2 x salt pepper squid (these tasted like they were deep fried from frozen) and the bread with oils (these were fine). Our mains were 3x classic burgers (good) 1 x chicken burger (good) and I ordered sea bream fillet with a prawn and mussel risotto - this was from the specials menu. The serving was huge - the fish (two fillets) were over cooked and dry, the risotto was a mass of dry rice. I was extremely disappointed and only managed two forkfuls of the risotto and one fillet. It’s a nice location and the pub had a friendly atmosphere but I think you need to stick to the “pub food”.
