About The Wheatsheaf at Beetham

Dating back to 1609 when the first brick was laid, The Wheatsheaf at Beetham is steeped in history. It’s also at the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty right on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria that’s famed for its unique wildlife, stunning scenery, hunting, fishing, superb walking and historically important buildings. Recently refurbished and restored to its former glory, the inn is once again an integral part of the community with great food served at lunch and dinner, local ales, award-winning craft beers and a huge selection of wine, gin and rum to enjoy.  There’s a beer garden too when weather permits and four well-appointed guest rooms up in the rafters if you want use the Wheatsheaf as a base to explore this special part of the world.

Absolutely loved the Wheatsheaf. The food is really good, served in a wonderful cosy environment and by great staff. I had a menu special on Thursday night and liked it so much that I had it again there the very next evening. Delicious! Lovely people; both staff and other patrons! Highly recommend.

Excellent food and first class service. The pies are hand made on site and are delicious. In fact, everything we ate was of the highest quality. The staff are brilliant and very friendly. Highly recommended.

Lovely little traditional pub. Sunday lunch excellent - full marks for food quality and portions sizes. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will visit again.

Second visit in 2 months. First for a birthday celebration at the end of December - great food for all of 5 of us from the Fish and Chips, to the Cobb Salad, and the Daily Pie Special - all were really pleased. Second visit on a Sunday with a limited menu because of Sunday roasts. Beef roast was ok; half a chicken roast wasn't - more of a quarter chicken leg plus thigh; cumberland sausage small but tasty; bubble and squeak awful to the point of unedible. Advice - steer clear of Sundays unless you want the beef roast - every other day of the week great food.

Great food and great ambience.

A little known gem. A wet and miserable day outside but inside a roaring fire, superb food, and a friendly and welcoming team. Genuinely could not have been better. The roasts went down well including the mammoth Yorkshire puddings….. my Haggis and Neeps (off the specials board) was brilliant. Lovely warm puddings topped us off. Book to avoid disappointment.

Cracking fish and chips for me and 2 friends, plus a classic cheese and onion pie for my wife - very nice indeed. Service great too!
