About The Wheatsheaf at Beetham

Dating back to 1609 when the first brick was laid, The Wheatsheaf at Beetham is steeped in history. It’s also at the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty right on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria that’s famed for its unique wildlife, stunning scenery, hunting, fishing, superb walking and historically important buildings. Recently refurbished and restored to its former glory, the inn is once again an integral part of the community with great food served at lunch and dinner, local ales, award-winning craft beers and a huge selection of wine, gin and rum to enjoy.  There’s a beer garden too when weather permits and four well-appointed guest rooms up in the rafters if you want use the Wheatsheaf as a base to explore this special part of the world.

We were staying at the Wheatsheaf and booked a table for 7.30pm. We also had breakfast the next morning. We shared a halloumi starter and both had the steak and Swan pie with mash. Very nice food, well cooked and nicely presented. There was lots of gravy but it would have been better if it was home made. The breakfast was excellent. Service was friendly and prompt. The IPA and black heart were also very good. I find Lancashire can be about 10% more expensive than Yorkshire but there you go.

As always, great food, great service in a great pub.

We, two couples (Smallwood and Ryder), booked for two nights The Wheatsheaf and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Two very pleasant and clean rooms, with super bathrooms, which appeared fairly newly decorated. Terrific showers. We had breakfast on each of the two mornings, plus evening meals. The food was excellent on all accounts. They catered very well for my wife who has to have a strict Gluten and Nut free diet, which again the staff, 'Callum' and 'Lucy' we very thorough and attentive to my wife's requirements. Both Callum and Lucy were so friendly and made pleasant conversation from the minute we walked through the door ! Also a shout out to a new member of staff 'Flora', (I believe was her name). So nice to be served with a smile from a polite young lady. We will definitely return to The Wheatsheaf Inn ! Thank you to all.

Probably our tenth visit in the last ~3 years. Food, drink and service was excellent as always - even if some of our party of 11 were nearly an hour late! Will definitely be back and I recommend it to all my friends.

Lovely evening meal with friends, well looked after by the staff, and the food was excellent, one point to raise is to clean down the table, it felt sticky when we first sat down,

Very nice roast dinner, although the beef was on the tough side. Vegetables were good, as was the service - the menu was quite limited, and unfortunately food service finished at 6pm on a Sunday, so we had to eat early. We shared the crumble for pud, and it was delicious - generous portion too.

Superb food, as always. Never had a bad meal at The Wheatsheaf. Sunday dinner's are the best (nut roast is lush and hubby is a huge fan of the beef). I'm an IPA fan and there's always something on draft that I love. Dog friendly too which is a bonus. The staff are always warm and welcoming. If you're in the area and looking for great food at a reasonable price, then I'd highly recommend The Wheatsheaf. Booking is essential as it gets really busy, but it's simple to do online or with a quick phone call.

Food was fine had Sunday lunch, however the service was terrible plenty of staff, but they just seemed to be walking around missed empty plates and glasses, waited ages for a drink and had to ask twice if we could order food, it was busy but I have seen it busier, the manager was not there, he is usually really good very disappointed
