About The Wheatsheaf at Beetham

Dating back to 1609 when the first brick was laid, The Wheatsheaf at Beetham is steeped in history. It’s also at the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty right on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria that’s famed for its unique wildlife, stunning scenery, hunting, fishing, superb walking and historically important buildings. Recently refurbished and restored to its former glory, the inn is once again an integral part of the community with great food served at lunch and dinner, local ales, award-winning craft beers and a huge selection of wine, gin and rum to enjoy.  There’s a beer garden too when weather permits and four well-appointed guest rooms up in the rafters if you want use the Wheatsheaf as a base to explore this special part of the world.

Good menu to choose from. Crispy chicken burger was tasty and the triple cooked chips are excellent. Pie of the day was corned beef hash and hubby said it was delicious along with buttery mash and red cabbage with plenty of gravy. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Would certainly go again.

Excellent Sunday roast, large portion sizes and all the usual accompaniments. Booked at short notice and were seated at small table by the stairs which was o.k. but would have preferred another in the dining rooms. Staff very welcoming and attentive. Able to take my small dog.

Great as always. We come here quite often; the food is always good and the staff are always friendly. Very relaxed and dog friendly too.

Our latest visit for Sunday lunch was disappointing. Very slow service…20 minutes after being seated we had to ask someone if we could order drinks. Food arrived nearly an hour after we arrived and was poor - small portions and lukewarm.

Disappointing visit this time. We've always had good food before. Husband had roast beef with one small very thin slice of beef. Watery gravy and two shrivelled roasties brown inside. My food was tasty but not as advertised on menu, not bavarian bread with the pate and normal chips not shoestring with main course. Service was extremely slow and we were charged for drinks we hadnt had on the bill. Good thing I checked it. We heard staff saying they were low on beef but better to pull it when it is finished than give ridiculously small portions.
