With its commanding views out across the Rossendale Valley, the Whitchaff Inn is a great spot for a delicious meal or a pint of cask ale. It’s convenient for both Rawtenstall and Edenfield and this Robinsons pub – a former coaching house – has recently been refurbished to a high standard. Food is served at lunch and dinner seven days a week and as well as pub classics and modern British dishes there are separate Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Plant Based menus that cater to all tastes. Not to mention the Seasonal Specials and a yummy Pudding menu.

We arrived slightly early but were seated straight away. Service was spot on, we were really well looked after. Lovely varied menu. Food was served very quickly, was piping hot and delicious. We both had dessert which is unusual for me, my pavlova was divine and my friend said her mint choc meringue was the best dessert ever. We will be back.

Not our first visit in a large group, won't be our last. Last minute booking after we needed a change of venue to accommodate additional mobility needs. Only able to book for 8 online, forgot to call to increase that ahead of arriving. On arrival, headcount issues explained and because the large table was already booked, some defy sleight of hand with other tables, conjured up the extra place. Staff were attentive and sociable enough to indulge in the dad jokes that were rattled off and orders taken accurately and efficiently. Starters were generally a hit. Some could have stood some extra seasoning, such as the salt and pepper prawns. Mains were generally ok. The parts that were good, we're very, very good. (I'm looking at you pies and sizzlers). The other parts have been better in previous visits. Roasted and chipped potatoes wouldn't have suffered a few more minutes' cook to enhance the cuisson and crunch. By contrast, the cook on the roast beef was taken a touch too far. Having been told to expect a little pink, it failed to deliver. Serving the same amount of beef in thicker slices might help it stay pinker at the pass. Desserts were a triumph. The DIY children's ice cream cone was fun but not too messy. The Aero meringue mess was a challenge accepted and dispatched, eventually. The sticky toffee pudding was another generous portion of sponge and caramel. Faultless. I budgeted £40 per head and we came in under £300 ex service charge.

Every single thing about this meal was perfect. The staff were all really friendly and had great sense of humour even when I referenced our waitress that a guy in the bar had a similar ponytail. She took it really well and the banter from then was fantastic. The food was the best pub food in the area by a mile and the price was great value for such a high standard of quality and service

We booked a table for 6 for a birthday meal. We waited around 15 minutes to give a drinks order and another 10 to do food. We waited 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive, they arrived as the starters were delivered. We waited around long time for the main meal with one served cold, missing a side from another and 1 meal delivered 10 mins after the rest. We had to flag down a server to get cutlery and condiments. Overall disappointing experience, service poor and food very average.
