About The White Gate

Set on White Gate Drive just outside Mirfield town centre, The White Gate combines the feel of a polished gastropub with the warmth of a neighbourhood local. Contemporary interiors and a relaxed atmosphere provide the backdrop to a menu that moves comfortably between elevated pub classics, steaks, seafood and seasonal specials, with Sunday lunch a particular draw. There’s also a well-chosen drinks offering, from cocktails and local ales to an accessible wine list, making it as suited to a casual lunch or midweek supper as a more celebratory evening out. With a reputation built on consistency and a loyal local following, it's become a reliable fixture of the West Yorkshire dining scene.

Upon entering the pub, the guy behind the bar was showing the waitresses a magic trick, now I don’t have a problem with that, but on customers entering the pub he should have stopped and greeted the customers, he did not. We waited for maybe 60 to 90 seconds before being greeted, which was not very professional. We ordered some drinks at the bar, a large glass of Pinot Grigio and a large glass of Pepsi Max (no ice), the drinks were handed over, the Pepsi had ice in it, I didn’t bother to say anything. We were shown to our table and given some menus, whilst we were choosing what to order, at least 2 more tables were seated close by. We had put the menus down indicating that we were ready to order, but the other 2 tables were attended to before us, eventually my wife had to ask the guy behind the bar if we could order. Order taken and we waited for our food. Our food arrived and I have to say, it was excellent, the only negative was that we had to use the dessert spoons vegetables and cauliflower cheese because none were supplied. We decided to share a dessert and of course we had to ask for spoons as we’d used the ones supplied on the vegetables. As previously mentioned, the food was excellent, the waitresses were lovely, but the overall service was not the best.

Another superb meal. The White Gate is our favourite place to eat with an outstandingly different choice of cuisine. My other half went for the, never failing to please, Steak Pie, whilst I chose the Chicken with Celeriac Dauphinoise and a side of spinach and kale. Desserts of warm apple tarte with ice cream and chocolate fondue finished off nicely. Not to mention the bottle of red!! Staff as always, friendly and attentive. Look forward to the next time.

First visit in a long time but definitely won't be our last. Although we initially thought it was a little on the pricey side when reading the menu we soon found out why. The food was excellent and the portions were good. This, in addition to the great service and friendly welcome, served to show that you definitely get what you pay for at the White Gate. Would definitely recommend a visit.

This was my 6th visit and won’t be my last. I love this place. The food, the staff and the decor are fantastic. I’ve recommended so many people to try out The Whitegate. Wishing all the best for this pub. Success is highly deserved

The setting is lovely and we appreciate the table lamps and linen. A friendly greeting on arrival, prompt drinks service and good food. What could possibly go wrong? We were made to feel difficult for requesting full cups of coffee rather than the half cups initially served and then rather as though we were overstaying our welcome whilst we drank them. Such a shame!

We were warmly greeted on entry. Given a nice table , bit close to the music speaker!! Varied menu with special dishes nit usual at lunch time . The food arrived in good time, all fresh and nicely presented. We were asked if everything was alright for us . We all found our meals to be delicious and look forward to a return visit. Staff friendly and efficient. I particularly enjoyed my Risotto , a favourite and a dish not many places offer!! Good value for money.
