About White Lion at Alvanley

Once part of a farm and steeped in history, the White Lion sits at the heart of the community in the idyllic Cheshire village of Alvanley. It provides a warm welcome year-round with four roaring fires on the go in winter and landscaped gardens and a patio area coming into their own in summer with views out over the Cheshire plain and the Welsh hills. The pub is also bedecked with hanging baskets and planters and the award-winning displays are quite the draw. The White Lion has a range of quality cask ales and beers along with a great selection of wines plus a menu packed full of mouth-watering dishes and daily specials. Walkers are welcome at the White Lion and the pub produces its own guide to local walks, downloadable from the website.

We had a lovely lunch here on Friday 1st May. Food was delicious, staff attentive and the pub was immaculate. We have never been here before but will definitely come back.

Decided to have a meal out at the white lion as the weather was wonderful and thought a country pub would be ideal It was, staff were friendly and welcoming as we have been at other pubs in there chain we knew what we wanted and it was perfect. Great evening

We booked a table and sat in the restaurant, been sat over 20 minutes and the waitress just ignored us, served tables that had come in after us. Ended up going to the bar and placing our order as couldn’t get the waitresses attention. The food wasn’t good, the chips weren’t cooked, chicken goujons were just brown meat and no taste at all. Prosecco was completely flat. Used to really enjoy meals here, but this was a disappointing experience.

We had a lovely evening celebrating a birthday, it was busy in the beer garden and quiet inside. Served pretty quickly and food was great. Really enjoyed it and recommend

We went for lunch at the White Lion on Monday 20th April. The restaurant was very quiet with only one other table occupied. We were made welcome. I chose salmon supreme which was cooked beautifully my husband had curry which he said was also well cooked. We will definitely come back.

Not a great experience. Table was booked for 3 people and myself and my friend arrived first so purchased some soft drinks and then were told we coukd sit anywhere. Our friend arrived and she was shown to Table by a lovely lady who then took her drinks order. She then went on to explain that a number of items were off the menu as they did not have them in. A gentleman then came over and took the food order. We ordered and then he returned to say another item was off the menu! This was not great as my friend is lactose intolerant so had very little she coukd eat due to so much being unavailable. Food arrived, the gentleman asked if we needed any extra causes, but was that quick I was unable to ask for what I wanted before he had disappeared and returned with what was asked for but then had to go back and get what I wanted. Food was really nice to be fair but the attitude of the man serving is was not great, it was as if he did not really want to be there. Bill came and we were shocked to see that 3 pints of Pepsi max cost over £15.00! We did question this and were told that the price was correct. Whilst I know things have gone up, this is a bit extreme. I code purchase 24 cans for only a little more!! Pub was really quiet and in the past this has meant the service has been good in other pubs we have been to, but surprisingly it was totally the opposite on our visit to the White Lion.

First visit to the white lion on the evening of 26/3/26, nice surprise to find blue badge parking direct in front of entrance. My partner and I were received in a friendly manner and directed to a comfy table, drinks order was delivered promptly. Food menu was extensive with a good range of starters, mains and sweets. Our order was prompt, hot and delicious, followed by feedback enquiry as to our thoughts on the food and service. We left feeling well fed, and planning to visit again. The white lion is a recommended venue for great food and drinks, well managed with a pleasant atmosphere.
