We booked a table to have Sunday lunch after visiting the market, and realised it could be busy. Table wasn't ready so we bought drinks in the bar and waited comfortably in the lounge area next to the restaurant. Didn't have long to wait before being shown to our table (by the window with great views!), provided with menus and our order was taken promptly. We did wait 40mins before the meal arrived but presumed it was because it was extra busy due to the market. The meal was worth waiting for!! Generous portions, huge Yorkshire pudding, and a wide variety of vegetables. Recommended.

Really enjoyed our food ambit couple of points to note. We booked on line for 4pm - which was accepted on the website - but the restaurant actually closes at 4pm on Sundays! Luckily I rang and asked if we could go in early! The meat was overcooked. Fine for me but my OH wasn’t impressed. There were lots of veggies which I loved and it was piping hot. Very good! The waiting staff were excellent, friendly and polite. We would go again but would book an earlier time.

We enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant upstairs for my wife's birthday. It's the same menu if you eat in the bar downstairs but I had requested some flowers on the table and a big bunch of red roses was waiting for us. It was very quiet with us being the first diners of the evening and we had a great view of the grounds outside. A bit of background music would have been good but we made do with Adam (castle entertainment) practicing "I did it my way" about 15 times next door! Great menu full of pub classics the wife went for potato skins with bacon and cheese, I had the garlic mushrooms to start. Big portions and very tasty. Then the wife had the steak pie with mash and veg, I had the steak with all the trimmings. The peppercorn sauce was one of the best I have ever had. Both very nice and again enormous portions. We could not finish and no room for pudding! Prices are fair but the quality and quantity shine through. It's the first evening meal at the castle enjoying Sunday lunch a few times before and also the on site chippy. It's all good and as caravan owners here it's great to have this all on our door stop. 10/10 chef.
