About The Old Gate Inn

Built in 1616, The Old Gate Inn at Brassington - southwest of Matlock and close to Carsington Water - is a Grade II-listed freehouse. The beautiful stone-built pub features original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, parquet flooring and has a spacious bear garden to the rear. There’s a timeless feel to the place and the new management team are looking to build a real community hub serving locals and visitors alike with an excellent selection of food and drinks, regular live music nights and a weekly quiz night. Dogs are welcome too.

Stayed in an Airbnb pretty much next door so this was super handy. Saturday evening meal was fabulous and we returned for Sunday lunch. The roast (I had nut roast, hubby the gammon) was superb. Great value, great vibe and lovely friendly staff. Fantastic all round.

What an absolute gem of a pub. The staff were so friendly and offered a prompt service. The food was amazing, pipping hot and reasonable priced. I had the fish croutons, homemade chips and salad, my husband had the steak and Stilton pie. Both meals were delicious. The pub also allowed dogs, which was fantastic after a long walk. We would definitely come again and I highly recommend.

We have been here several times and have enjoyed the food and cosy atmosphere. We went on Saturday evening and enjoyed our time, friendly staff, nice food, fire going etc, the only issue was we asked for some extra custard which was a tiny pot (about 2 spoonfuls) which would have been ok if they hadn’t charged £2.50 for it!! Really disappointing and spoilt it.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday Roast for our 3 generation family last weekend. Delightful staff and service couples with good beer and cosy and atmospheric fires - perfect Sunday afternoon ! . It was our second visit and we’ll definitely be back again!

Have enjoyed several superb Sunday lunches here, but this time my friend and I tried the evening menu. We were not disappointed. I had the rich succulent beef bourginan with lovely mash and very nicely cooked seasonal veg - not mushy just the right side of al dente. My friends chicken, ham and leek pie was a proper full pie - no silly puff pastry lid - with lovely shortcrust pastry and a tender, delicious filling. Oh, and we enjoyed a lovely starter of pate and toast. A super meal from start to finish with good service.
