About The Old Gate Inn

Built in 1616, The Old Gate Inn at Brassington - southwest of Matlock and close to Carsington Water - is a Grade II-listed freehouse. The beautiful stone-built pub features original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, parquet flooring and has a spacious bear garden to the rear. There’s a timeless feel to the place and the new management team are looking to build a real community hub serving locals and visitors alike with an excellent selection of food and drinks, regular live music nights and a weekly quiz night. Dogs are welcome too.

Visiting area for weekend and so enjoyed their Sunday lunch we went back on Monday for curry! Pub of great character and really lovely staff. If weather good, there are lots of tables outdoors too… and we loved their ‘village shop’ cupboard and fridge!! We will go back when next in the area.

The food was of good quality and was particularly good value as it came from the Thursday £10 menu. The chef clearly knows what she’s doing. Service was equally good. The Brassington bitter is definitely worth a try. We will go again.

Booked for Sunday lunch as we were staying close by in the village. It was very busy, which is great for a village pub. After a short wait we were shown to our table. The server apologised for the wait to take our order but to be fair we had only waited 5 or so minutes so no issue at all. Once we ordered the meal was served in about 10 mins. Well worth the wait. Great Sunday roast very good servers. A genuine welcoming pub in the Dales.

We are staying in a nearby village on holiday and had read excellent reviews, so thought we would book. We, and our dog, were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and we had a lovely meal. The food was delicious (the homemade pie and gravy were absolutely amazing), the service was friendly and efficient and the place was very warm , cosy and welcoming. We are hoping to fit in another visit before we have to go home!

We recently celebrated a 70th birthday at the Old Gate Inn, with a meal for 21 people, and we couldn’t have been happier with how everything went. Communication beforehand was excellent, and being able to pre-order our food made everything so much easier, especially with such a large group. The staff were friendly, helpful and well organised, and everything ran smoothly on the day. The food was delicious, portions were generous, and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. It was the perfect place for a special family celebration. Thank you to all the team at the Old Gate Inn for helping make the 70th birthday such a lovely and memorable occasion. We would definitely recommend you and will happily return!
