Hot food, generous portions, fair prices, great friendly service in a lovely atmosphere of a typical Essex pub steeped in history - what's not to like!

Been to the pub for drinking on numerous occasions. Thought we would try the food and wasn’t disappointed, the Sunday roast was great. Plenty of food and the service was good.

Charming place to meet old friends, revisit childhood haunts. Welcoming atmosphere and great service. Delicious food. Only comment -would seek the music volume in dining area to be lower.

Such a lovely old pub. The atmosphere is always very nice with an eclectic mix of people. The food is good with very little wait and the staff are excellent. This is definitely my ‘go to’ pub and I would highly recommend it. Also, they allow dogs which is great as it’s lovely to pop in for a pint at the end of a good dog walk!

Food was really good, service was wonderful, allow dogs and a live singer to boot. Just perfect. Thank you.

Lovely, warm, cosy & welcoming setting, local authentic atmosphere, stunning food and service. Home cooked, wholesome, fresh meals from an excellent selection and clearly brilliant chefs, and the service was excellent and so efficient from everyone. Just as importantly - when we had a small suggestion about something that we thought may improve our experience, it was solved immediately, efficiently and so friendly & professionally which was highly impressive and made us love the place even more! Its no wonder this place books up and highly recommend and look forward to going back.

Had Xmas meal with people from work … amazing service and banter with the staff .. the chef excelled the food was amazing all 10 of us had an fantastic time … thank you to all the staff for a great experience
