A few weeks back I had a bad experience here and e-mailed the manager. We received a voucher which we have yet to use. But a friend drove me there a week ago and it seemed like they had taken on board my comments and improved. The restaurant no longer smelt of old cooking oil and my fish and chips were golden (a sign of fresh oil) rather than the dark chips on the previous occasion. I must admit I avoided the steak this time in case I was again given a piece that was so chewy I could not eat it. So thank you for listening, and once again your staff were very pleasant and helpful

Poor management the girl who we complained to was a disgrace, she seemed quite young and inexperienced, she had no people skills at all and came across quite fake, we only complained that it had taken a while between courses!

Booked for a last minute lunch on a much needed day off. Beautiful restaurant and packed for a Monday! Pleasant and attentive staff. Beautifully presented starters. We didn't really need the bread and olives too but they were lovely! The mains were again well presented and very tasty. Desserts divine. Service was generally good but somewhat slow between courses and we ran out of time for the coffee we had ordered but didn't arrive. We put this down to the number of diners rather than poor service though and staff were apologetic. The only down side was not being able to give a tip with our card payment and having no cash so we will have to return again soon to double tip our lovely server who was fab ! Many thanks

Disappointed Mum!

This was one of the worst restaurants I ever ate in - we were given shockingly small portion sizes - and I'm not a massive eater!! It was overpriced pretentious and the management need proper training on customer service - a potentially lovely lunch with 3 adults and 1 2 year old cost over £70 and we were not drinking! They didn't honour their kids meal deal - and charged my 2 year old son almost £15 for his tiny sausage and mash meal with ice cream desert .... An experience I will choose to forget rather than repeat!

Had cocktails and dinner with my girl friends last Friday. Had a wonderful evening with really friendly and attentive staff. The food was beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and a reasonable price. My friend managed to entertain the restaurant by slipping over but next time she promises to behave!! Will definitely be returning

It was our first visit to the shepherd and dog. On pulling up to the restaurant we were like wow, this looks nice.We walked in and were greeted by I can only presume the floor manager. He showed us to our table. (Ps you must book to get a table as it was busy) The lady who attended to our table was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble..She checked on us a number of times during our visit. Wish you don't get anymore as other restaurants have such a quick turnaround and have to attend to so many customers. The decor was fresh and contemporary. It is very clean. The food arrived at the table quickly. It was very Michelin star food. You pay for what you get. The food was displayed perfectly on the plate. The desserts were lovely presented too.At the end of our time there. My stomach was extremely contented. We took our son. The only downside was there was no child size portions. Luckily he can eat an adult size portion. But for others it might be too much. I recommend the shepherd and dog and have done already to family and friends. We will be returning there soon.Thank you for a great dining experience

I have been to the Shepherd and Dog twice now and both times the food was excellent . Stylishly presented but without being too pricey. The staff have been helpful, friendly and we have been impressed and I have recommended it to all my friends.

Briefly, had late lunch 3:30pm ish in bar and within half an hour had cleaners hoovering literally around our feet. Have enough of this indoors so Monday was a form of escapism that did not happen. Will stay at home next Monday and hoover or go elsewhere!!!!

Thought we would treat ourselves to a late lunch - a late lunch being 3:30 in the bar area because restaurant closes at 2:30. Had not finished our lunch when the cleaners started mopping the floors and then hoovered around our feet!! We wanted escapism not home cleaning...We hastily took the remainder of our food and drink outside and promptly departed. Felt they took our money and wanted departure within 10 minutes.

What a wonderful Friday night. Our meal was excellent, the service was superb, a great ambience and very stylish surroundings. Our first visit there and we will most definitely return. Its about time there was a fine restaurant locally as usually we have to travel many miles for quality. 10 out of 10 in every respect.

My friends and I had a great lunch here today. The chef chatted and told us a bit of his background. We were pleased to hear that he has employed local youngsters as waiting staff, who I am sure will do really well. Good luck to them all. The food and service was excellent.

Dined here twice now, food ok, the smoked salmon starter I had with sprinkles of nuts and seeds plus I could taste sugar-yuk. They would be better to keep food simple rather than try to be something they are not. Staff are inexperienced as previous review says, being taught how to serve customers from the right and not across the table would be a start. Food was tasty. Finally, I expect to finish a meal in a nice restaurant with a cup of coffee, not an oversized kitchen mug.

Recently visited this brand new restaurant and was very impressed with the decor and most of all the food .Very good value for the quality of food served.the only real criticism would be that the staff were mostly very young and inexperienced and were not very knowledgeable about any of the food or drink being served.Having said all that it would not put me off going again as the Chef who came and spoke to us seemed very professional and new what he was talking about and I'm sure he will get it right in time.
