We owned a house at The Bay for 11 years and have visited The John Paul Jones often. We went 30th May again and this the best experience of all. The pub is newly refurbished which was more than in need of. The pub was packed and the staff customer service was also the best we’ve ever experienced there. The new online booking is fantastic. The food was generous and nice. The prices have gone up a bit but that’s to be expected. Special mention to George our waiter he was brilliant.

Meal was nice, waiting time between order and receipt of meal was around one hour which we were not informed of when arriving. The pub was very busy but as you had to pre book surely this could have been foreseen. The most frustrating part was getting the bill, we had to ask four times before receiving it. Portions were on the small side and were quite expensive at around £12.50 for standard food.

Service good. Food distinctly average. £25 for a Iceland curry with doritos? and pie and mash with seasonal veg, oops sorry peas. 2 for a tenner in Wetherspoon's. Sorry but all fur and no knickers.

The menu was very very reduced. To only 3 items, 2 of which were fish so very limited choice. Not told about the reduced menu when we sat down. Staff very attentive and friendly but waited over an hour for food and with two small children this wasn’t ideal.

The staff were very friendly & efficient. But the service was terrible. We waited an hour and a half to get our food even though we had booked. As we were allocated a 2 hour slot it meant we only had 30 minutes to eat our food & leave.. This pub has certainly gone down hill from when we visited last.

Very basic for the price, nice setting but this as really gone down hill since it first opened. The bay is lovely and deserves a better local.

Good, helpful and friendly staff. Clean pub, tables well spaced out and good ventilation. Unfortunately the food was mediocre. The pastry on my vegan pie was so hard that I could hardly cut it and the breadcrumb topping was chewy. My husband's steak pie was also rock hard. Very strange!

Food was amazing and great discount for taking away, slightly expensive but worth it

I would love to visit but try find a menu, Impossible. I want to know what is on offer, dont want to turn up on curry night for a carvery.

Oriental Chinese Restaurant. The assorted platter starter is delicious, followed by duck, pancakes and hoisin sauce. All reasonably priced and superbly cooked.The restaurant is beautiful and spotlessly clean. The staff friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend.

NOW CALLED ORIENTALExcellent selection of authentic Chinese food in beautiful themed restaurant. There is also a lunchtime menu available Wednesday to Friday. Service and cleanliness both superb. Would definitely recommend. 5*

Appalled, wouldn’t ever go again I went with members of my family, 6 of us in all, when we arrived it was very quiet, we ordered drinks and meals including a steak for my brother who doesn’t eat spicy food so stays safe with a steak. The order arrived apart from the steak, we waited awhile then started eating, but my brother was still waiting for his steak, I asked the waiter who had taken our order he said that it wouldn’t be long, by this time the rest of us had nearly finished so I asked yet again after some discussions they then came back to our table and told us that they didn’t have any steak, but he could order something else ???? what was the point the rest of us had nearly finished. They said there had been a miss understanding between the cook and the waiter, but I feel they knew they didn’t have steak but they wanted the rest of us to eat some they could charge us. Again they came to our table and said my brother could have a take away which he would have to pay for, we said this was not acceptable and would just leave it. Just before we left they said we wouldn’t have to pay for the steak which? why would we pay? we never got a steak. I wouldn’t have been as annoyed if they had at any point apologised but they didn’t, they didn’t even offer my brother a drink for the upset or the inconvenience.

I went to Scalby Manor on Wednesday 8/4/2015. I was not at all happy, my partner could not have a shandy for there was only bottled lemonade. You could have a choice of three meats but there was only 2. The beef was chewy and hard to cut. I visit you a lot but I'm not happy with it today.

Excellent fish and chips! Light batter that is not even one bit greasy! Chips also light and not greasy! Cooked to order! Served in a cardboard box. No tartar sauce or coleslaw, but the excellent haddock is great on its own.

Terrible customer services and disgusting taste of half-done chicken!

I dined with friends at lunch, the service was pleasing and the food delicious! I had scallops which were cooked to perfection!
