after deciding to eat out on Friday 22/01/10 at the black bull midgley i must stress how disappointed we was at the service and quality of food on offer there.we ordered our starter which was supposed to be homemade wild mushroom soup and 20 minutes later we got two dishes of what i can only describe as pond water with a few bits of dark stuff in it which was trying to pass as mushrooms that soup as never seen homemade it was just add water. after our plates was cleared we was still waiting 40 minutes later for our main course which was a supposed to be a steak and a sweet and sour chicken. at this point my husband was getting a bit impatient about waiting so long as there was only twelve people in the pub which i found hard to believe on a Friday night at that particular pub,he approached the bar to ask when our meal was to be served as he did so a pint of larger and a glass of wine was ordered the landlord as i now know him as was not happy with the cleanliness of the glass so he decided to wipe it on his shirt then continued to pour the wine this was the same shirt he was wearing to clear the dirty plates away in how disgusting is that. my husband asked how long our meal would be and the man just kept saying they was busy and it wouldn't be long after a short while 40 mins after our soup the man came out with our main courses when i pointed out to him that i thought the service was very poor and that homemade soup was out of a packet and not fresh he just kept saying they was busy i also pointed out that there was only twelve people in the pub and i was a cook he just turned and walked away no apologies or anything then when i looked at my food i noticed that my sweet and sour sauce was probably out of a jar aswell we have had many a meal out and have never had to complain before until now i do hope that this respond will be helpful in the future and i will not be recommending this pub to anyone whatsoever we was still talking about it on the sunday and will be telling everyone at work on monday about our bad experience there. also the landlord needs to go on basic health and hygiene course and an up selling course to encourage good custom and not bad as he is getting now as all the good comments was from 2008 not recent didnt he have the pub then.

Black Bull – Wakefield

Called in this pub on a whim, never looked back, I live four miles away and have made this my local. The staff and customers contribute to the great atmosphere especially at weekends when its busy. Doesn't do food any more but the beer more than makes up for it, its traditional sam smiths and only £1.39 a pint, can't go wrong.

Waggon and Horses – Wakefield
Kerrygold

Excellent, good value restaurant. Food has always been good, service is attentive, friendly but not dominating. You should go. I certainly intend to again.

Ruchee Restaurant – Wakefield
Mr And Mrs White

We went to the fox and hounds on Christmas eve; we didn't have a table booked but the waitresses found us a table down in the conservatory which was decorated lovely with candles on every table. The waitress brought us our drinks and a menu with no wait at all. I had Goats Cheese and Chicken & Mushrooms and my Husband had Soup and a Mixed Grill which was cooked absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't been before the food was gorgeous the service was outstanding and the place on a whole was brilliant 10/10.

This year I had 3 birthday parties here(69th)one with friends, one with my dance pupils and one with my family, all in the same week.I was treated like a Queen on all 3 occasions. All my family and friends visit on a regular basis as the food, service and prices are top marks. It will be my 70th next year and cannot wait to celebrate again with these lovely people.Thank you especially to Marcus and the very handsome young men who came to my table and sang "happy birthday",love to all and a Happy New Year xx

Bollywood Lounge – Wakefield
Joanne Hobbs

I have visited this pub on several occasions and could not, in all honesty recommend it unless the diner likes lots of deep fried foods or limp salads. The last time I called in, mum had her lunch of mixed deep fried fish platter, limp salad and tartare sauce and I didn't eat and am glad that I didn't. It does get very busy - so must be more than acceptable to most palates - just not to mine or my husbands

British Oak Inn – Wakefield

Ate here last night (Dec 09) and was pleasantly surprised we could choose from a normal menu, not a set Christmas special there was lots of choice, all the usual pizzas and pastas but a much wider range of meat & fish specials than many Italians Food was lovely & well priced,as was the wine.Service was very friendly and quick. The restaurant was busy so had a good atmosphere for tables of groups (like us) or couples wanting something more romantic. Would definitely go again!

Bella Roma – Wakefield

A lovely restaurant! Very pleasant staff and fast, attentive service. I have never been able to fault this restaurant and neither have my family or friends- it is one of those places where I always feel in the mood to go. Try the salt and pepper chicken starter, it is actually amazing- and for main I ALWAYS have chicken on a skewer with any one of the fantastic sauces, beautiful!

Pagoda Cantonese Restaurant – Wakefield

I think it was the first week that they opened in the early 80's that I had my first visit to the Raj. I've tried other places in Wakefield but still prefer to come back here time after time. I think I've probably had a try of virtually everything on the menu but, the Onion Bhajis are to die for and the Tandoori Chicken is excellent. Don't take my word for it - go there. They serve superb food at a reasonable price.

Raj Poot India Restaurant – Wakefield

Gorgeous food, friendly staff, good service. Zac is great, such a likeable chap. Like it so much we've even moved nearer, just across the road.

Balti House – Wakefield

My girlfriend and I had driven past Rinaldis many times on the way to the nearby Asda and we thought we'd give it a go today. The place does not look amazing from the outside but it's a pleasant surprise on entering with its well presented interior and friendly atmosphere. The waiters are attentive but non intrusive and smiley and helpful. The food was great and very reasonably priced and we will be going back again for a bottle of red sometime.

didn't know anyone who had been to Thai on the Square, and from the outside it doesn't look that special so it's hard to know what to expect. There is a little entrance from the street and you go up some stairs so can't see from the street. The restaurant is modern and attractive and the food was amazing. Prices are reasonable too. I've recommended this to a few people and would definitely go back
