Bluefin Seafood & Grill – KenilworthReally enjoyed my Warwickshire smokie and 2 excellent pints of fresh real ale. Great service too. Even the chef popped out to give me some chips
Clarendon Arms – KenilworthThe Tipperary Inn is a lovely pub in the countryside. Serving British and Mediterranean food. I enjoyed my lunch by the log fire. Tasty and well presented!
The Tipperary Inn – KenilworthExcellent service, waitering staff always smiling and attentive, but barstaff seemed less so? Good food generally good service.
The Almanack – KenilworthHaving been told that this was the best Indian in Kenilworth, I was very disappointed. Yes, the restaurant is very clean and tidy, the decor is good and the staff are friendly and polite. The service was a little on the slow side to my liking but the food was very well presented. It was the quality of the food that was questionable. I decided to order one of my favourite Indian meals - a murghi massala - which I have always been led to beleive is a massala containing minced lamb, chicken and a boiled egg in a savoury/spicy sauce.I was, therefore, quite surprised to be asked if I wanted chicken or lamb? I must admit I have never tried a lamb murghi massala and, although I was tempted, just to see what was brought from the kitchen, I resisted and asked for chicken. I was then asked if I wanted extra chillies to spice up the dish. My reputation dictated a positive response. I had requested a portion of mushroom pilau rice to accompany the main dish. After a while - to be fair the resturant was busy - the food arrived. The rice was rather sparce. The chicken was good, tender and juicy, but I had a job to locate the lamb mince, the extra chilli turned out to be 1 very small piece of fried green chilli and did nothing to enhance the taste. It was the egg though that really spoiled the whole thing. It had obviously not been freshly boiled, probably lying around in cold water for some time, as the yolk was in a well advanced state of turning green. The Curry Monster
Indian Edge – KenilworthI have visited The Cross with a friend for an evening meal without a booking, the place was buzzing. We were greeted in a very professional way and informed that it will be a little waiting time for a table, we were directed to the bar from there. Great selections of wine and spirits at the bar and what a professional and good bartender! We enjoyed a drink and shared a starter at the bar during our wait and were directed to our table shortly after that. The food was fantastic with great attention to detail. My friend and I are both working in the industry and we know our food. This experience at The Cross will definitely be repeated, and I would encourage anyone to do so. Great food, great service and superb place. Keep up the good work guys.
The Cross At Kenilworth – KenilworthNice restaurant, good food, although the portions not huge. Worth going on an offers night rather than paying full price
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – KenilworthWe have just returned from a meal at the almanack most disappointed, not because of the food, but because of the terrible manners of the manager. The restaurant itself is lovely, beautifully decorated and welcoming. The waitress who served us was also very polite and pleasant. We had a voucher which entitled us to a starter and main course for £12.50 each which we felt was a great offer. We looked at the menu and saw that the starters were available in large or small and this obviously effected the price of the starter. However, nothing was mentioned in the small print on the voucher about whether or not opting for a large starter would mean that we were unable to take advantage of the promotion. therefore, we clarified this with our waitress. she told us that we could have a large starter as this would still comply with the promotion. Therefore my partner ordered a large starter and a main. She returned to tell us that his choice of main had ran out so he made another choice. This had also ran out so he settled for his third choice! The food was of great quality, I had opted for the roast beef and it was very tender if not a little undercooked for my taste. However we were happy with the food and surroundings and said that we would happily recommend the restaurant to our friends. Then the bill arrived. The promotion said that we had 2 courses for 12.50 each, therefore the bill sould according to my calculation have amounted to £25.00 plus the price of our drinks which was £6.60, a total of £31.60. The bill however stated that we owed 36.60 so we had obviously been charged extra for the large starter. As the waitress had told us that this wouldn't be the case, we queried the bill. She went and spoke to the manager who came over to us. We explained to him the situation and he rolled his eyes and said "You ordered the large starter so its reflected in the price" we explained that we had been told by the waitress that we would not be charged extra and he said "But it's quite self explanatory in the menu" As i have already mentioned there was nothing in the terms and conditions which made this explicit. We said this and he snatched the bill from my boyfriends hand and stormed off to the till. We were disgusted and shocked. I went to the bar as I was so embarrassed by what he had done in front of other diners. I said to him we would just pay what we owed as we wanted to leave immediately. I told him that he was so rude and a disgrace to the restaurant. He argued and said that he was not rude and he wanted to get the version of events from his staff. He snatched my money from my hands and gave me my correct change. I would not dine at this establishment again because of his terrible hostility and manners. What a shame as the restaurant really is a lovely place to dine for a special occasion. I will not be recommending this place to anyone, as I left feeling insulted and humiliated.
The Almanack – KenilworthDining experience Saturday 23rd march 2008: now managed by the chap from the Malt Shovel in Barston & a website with great customer feedback should have been a precursor to great things but what a terrible experience. Seated promptly but then had to wait 15 minutes for drinks to be served and then another 15 minutes to have our food order taken. Waitress displayed no knowledge of the menu or specials (more of that later)or experience in serving customers. Starters arrived spasmodically and due to the wait were swiftly eaten. Another 20 minutes and the mains finally arrive with one being completely the wrong dish and cold. The other was simply a pork chop (over cooked) with red onions - no vegetables/potatoes. When question I was advised that the menu tells you what you get, so no input from waiting staff is required to "up sell" the extras. Wrong dish was replaced and removed from bill. We were actually served by four different waiting staff including the manager which took a total of two and half hours for 2 people. Weird thing was the four people sitting next to us were wined, dined a eating pudding in an hour and a half, while we struggled to get a second round of drinks between courses - perhaps they telephoned their order beforehand! I was assured that the service would improve on my next visit - we will see. Food - borderline pedestrian, Service - risible = 2/10
