Masterchef

I recently visited Milan, the two course offer before 7, I thought, was a competitive and comparable deal to other restaurants in the area. I had, also, over the last few years frequented in its past guise as The Green Room, which I enjoyed thoroughly. Upon visiting in its current guise as Milan, I felt just disappointment. The menu is nicely presented, but nothing jumped out at me I didn't think wow that looks nice! I opted for the Tuscan sausages for a starter, it came out, two sausages in a bowl, topped with a sprig of parsley. Nothing really inventive about it, pleasant enough , just didn't seem much effort had gone into it. For the main, I chose the pork belly, always a must if on the menu. When it arrived, it was in a mini cauldron, stewed in a thick gravy like sauce, topped with a sprig of parsley. Again quite disappointed, no one commented , that looks nice, because it didn't. When I saw someone else's beef dish, in the same mini cauldron , with a comparable thick gravy sauce, topped again with a sprig of parsley, I just felt the menu has no invention. The vegetables potatoes had the air of quality / stock control, nicely presented but finely metered out in a frugal manner. Pork belly was fished out the cauldron, it was just stewed meat, think casserole. It was very salty and very rich, I did not enjoy it, but looking at the menu I don't think I would of enjoyed anything else, unless you liked parsley! To summarize - could do better ..... a lot better.

Do not go here! They provided a children's meal that was so hot it burnt my child's finger. Not only that but I had to complain twice to get any reaction & even then they charged me"!!!! The excuse - "we like to have everything hot" Why then was my meal cold was the same meal but a child's portion so hot!

Last Sunday lunchtime I had the pleasure to try out Milan, a new restaurant in West Kirby. Excellent! This place ticks all the boxes - Quality, Value-for-money, Professional and genuinely friendly staff. A breath of fresh air! Would recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Went for a family 21st last night - the food was incredibly poor quality -i didn't think it possible to get Nachos so wrong! Burgers were served with a slice of processed cheese and on fast food style buns! potato mash was described as inedible by a member of our group, while the rest of us were served oven chips! Surfers-reduce your menu size and concentrate on getting things didn't, not doing everything.

Surfers has new owners and we went last night using a groupon deal whereby the food we purchased was to the value of £36 but obviously we paid less. Husband had chicken goujons to start which were ok but we then had the 'Hot Rock' main and it can only be described as totally inadequate! It was supposed to be for two people but consisted of one chicken breast, two and a half 'bitty' scallops, three king prawns, approx 3ozs of frying steak and two asparagus spears! I then had malteser profiteroles for dessert, they were chronic...two profiteroles filled with canned squirty cream! I can honestly say that if we had had to pay the full price we would have refused....extremely poor value and we certainly will not be returning

I had booked the surfers restaurant through a voucher site. Before going I had read up on the reviews and was quite excited about the concept. That was until we arrived!!. The place was empty not a soul in sight. Fair enough it was a Monday evening. Still quite daunting. The staff were friendly and very attentive but the food was shocking!! The starters were ok to be fair. Homemade pate was nice. The main on the other hand was not. With the voucher we got the sharing buddy system where you cook your own food on a hot rock. Advertised was chicken, fillet steak, king prawns and scallops. There was no scollops, the fillet steak looked like off cuts which wen u put on the hot rock stuck as they were that small and you could not get them off. There was not enough food at all. We ordered dessert of profiteroles with bot chocolate and maltesers sauce. Well that was a joke. It was two stale profiteroles squishy cream from a can. And no sign of malteser. This was a very disappointing experience and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. If I had to pay full price I would not have been happy at all!!!

A gem of a restaurant. i genuinely believe that you wont find better Indian food than this on the Wirral. Karma is a successful small family restaurant and it is understandable why. excellent food, great wine, well priced, friendly staff, pleasant surroundings. what more do you need in a restaurant. its worth trying.

06/07/2011 Went to Surfers last night for a meal with my sister and her boyfriend. Service was excellent as usual. We all opted for the fillet steak rossini....... fabulous! Steaks just melted in the mouth. Well done Surfers. Keep it up!! Amazes me how so many people still haven't discovered this jewel in the crown of Wirral's restaurants. Don't miss out!!

We were not happy with our food. The Whitebait was greasy and not crispy, the Greek salad was minus a dressing and quite frankly, it was not authentic. My friend had fish and chips and there was a long stringy bit in the fish which resembled a tape worm, this just put us off the food altogether. The waitress was lovely and very pleasant, as was the young man who checked on us...however, we won't be rushing back anytime soon.

I did quite like this restaurant, but found the male host very invasive of my privacy.

Tasteless. We were unbelievably told to leave this restaurant tonight because we complained that the food was tasteless. Garlic prawns with no garlic. Avocado Prawn with two prawns. Spicy Mexicana pizza with no spices. Watery Lasagne with no flavour. One rude english waiter. One english Chef. We waited over an hour for our main. We complained very soon after our main course arrived when the waiter asked how our food was The waiter suddenly turned agressive, snatched our food off the tables and told us to leave. The other two couples eating in this restaurant also appeared frustrated with the food and service. If you're looking for an Italian restaurant on the Wirral - don't go here.

Happened upon the Casa Mia when it was cold, dark and wet! Food and service was so good, arranged for 12 of us to eat there a week later. Spectacular service and food for a second time. Went back a week later but was turned away as they were catering for a party of 40, and all other tables were already taken. Well worth a visit, but perhaps also also worth calling ahead! Great prices compared to the competition. Even better prices when you consider the size of the portions and the service with a friendly smile!

Something which is not clear on here is that this place has just re-opened with Aiden Byrne at the helm - we ate here last night and have to say that whilst the food is sensational - so are the prices! There is a fixed menu at £35 per head but there is a much cheaper lounge menu which they don't offer you unless you ask! Also, even though the prices are high, they are still charging extra for side dishes and supplements for the pricier dishes - £5 extra per head for one of the dishes! Prices aside (because after all it is still a pub after all..!) - the food is sensational. Our party went for the wing rib of beef for two (£28 per head) which was possibly the best piece of beef either of them had ever eaten - amazing was the only way to describe it! So, aside from the prices (& the wine also has a very hefty price tag) - the food is superb and the setting is lovely so I would recommend it but won't be going back unless it is for a very special occasion!
