We had take away Fish & Chips several times and they were amazing, on monday eve we ate inside. OMG. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We had the shared seafood platter and it was so good, and so generous. i honestly think you could charge 10-20 pounds more and it would still be good value. We couldnt finish it and the friendly staff gave us a box to take it away and we had a lovely light dinner for 2 the next night also from leftovers - i wont come to whitby without booking the magpie cafe. Brilliant

Very good service, excellent food!

Great Covid control and fantastic toilets. Food very good - lovely calamari and oysters. Mushy peas excellent and scampi was fantastic. Overall a lovely experience and service was thoughtful and kind.

Just wow! If you love seafood this is the place. We had the seafood platter and whilst it is quite expensive, the amount and quality of the seafood you get is well worth the money (the lobster, crab and oysters alone would have been worth the price). The service was great and our whole experience was so good, we’ve booked to return tonight.

We had a wonderful meal at Magpie Cafe. The staff were friendly, great food portions, and tasty. We would definitely go back.

We have been visiting the Magpie for over 20 years, it's a must when we come to Whitby. Things are somewhat different since covid but the cod and chips is still our favourite ever and the staff are great.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Oysters for me, then we both went for cod and chips - excellent! A bit surprised by the strong range of desserts, both good. Wine by the glass, bottle and carafe was very flexible. Excellent value.

Lovely meal -as always All COVID protocol in place . Staff attentive and helpful -especially with our little Grandson. Return several times a year during our visits to Whitby

We've been coming here, once a year for at least the past 15 years. We are now carrying on the tradition with our children. This is the first time we attended since lockdown restrictions were eased As usual, the food was not a disappointment. Portion sizes are huge and we always feel looked after and satisfied after out visits. Looking forward to our next venture

Great quality fish and great choice but portions too big, plates too small and service was a bit slow. Presentation was a bit basic but prices are good so overall it’s good value for money - just a bit confused about whether it’s a Fish and Chip restaurant or something a bit more up market. For punters wanting piles of food at reasonable prices I’d say it is good value but I think it’s past reputation is waning

Famous Fish and Chip restaurant the freshest fish ever

We ate at The Magpie last week and as usual the food was excellent. Sadly there was five of us in a very tight corner, I know the plastic dividers are there for our protection but there was no room for 5!! The service was not I believe as good as we have encountered in the past. Pleased to say we would still return very soon.

Such a disappointing evening, compared to the previous experience we had which was lovely. We booked the only available time slot available on the booking site, which was for 21.00 hrs.Not our preferred time slot. We had been seated in a corner where myview was of the wall. Within 2 minutes the waitress appeared and asked us if we had made our choices, as the chef said it's late and he needed to prepare our meals. Echoes of Basil and Fawlty Towers came to mind The atmosphere was ruined immediately. Perhaps if we had been supplied with a menu each and not 1 between us we could have made our decisions much quicker, so as not to inconvenience the chef by delaying him. The menu is so extensive, one needs enough time to choose. As I say, the first experience of the Magpie was a great experience, sadly we won't be returning again. P.S. we spent 145 pounds for two this evening , We'll apportion 144 for the food and 1 pound for the welcome

Fantastic cafe, beautiful fresh food and very clean. We have been to whitby many times and haven't wanted to queue to come in, this time we prebooked and it was so worth a visit we would even queue now to come in if we had to !

The best ever fish and chips here in a covid safe environment. Delicious desserts too. Thank you to all at magpie for making our day in whitby special

Another fabulous meal at The Magpie Cafe. Thanks for getting us a nice window seat overlooking the harbour too. The variety of meals was great to see. I enjoyed the Plaice and the family loved their meals. Thanks again Mike and family
