Absolutely superb meal and dining experience. One of the nicest in Wales

Food stunning, after one of the best meals I've ever had - we wanted everything on the menu - we just had to book again a few days later to try something else. Surprised that another reviewer said there was no veggie option as they certainly were on the menu on both occasions.

Our first visit was for our 26th wedding anniversary and probably one of the best meals we have ever had ! An amazing array of flavours put together with care and consideration in a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely visit again and my only request is for a veggie option so I can recommend it to more of my friends!

If you enjoy fine dining you really must visit La Plie, the food is outstanding. Every plateful is served with passion. It delights every sense. There is nothing comparable, unless you travel much further afield. This young chef and his team deserve to have an award, they are so dedicated to the quality of food that they serve their diners and to the service that they provide. I can't believe how fantastic the price - £22 for 3 exceptional courses. One of best restaurants we have eaten in. We have eaten in some of the finest Michelin starred restaurants. I can't recommend it enough, just go and see for yourself

If you love good food, excellently prepared and lovingly served, this restaurant is a must. Matt Powell and his staff deserve this to be a huge success. Would definitely recommend and am looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary with a sumptuous lunch at La Plie - what a revelation.
Having mourned the demise of Coast in Porthcawl throughout 2009 and finding, despite a number of attempts, nothing to compare to that this side of Monmouthshire it was a true delight to discover this fantastic restaurant.
The setting is magnificent, and the quality of the cuisine matches it. The set lunch provided my wife and I with difficult choices but in the end we plumped for scallop and tomato starters, monkfish and plaice main course and creme brulee and strawberry panacotta desserts. We, of course. swapped plates half way through each course to create our very own tasting menu.
All the food was cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and with a depth of flavour that lingered on the palette for an age. We could not resist the optional cheese course which included a mix of mature cheeses with exquisite fruit accompaniments.
We had a very pleasant chat with chef Matt Powell, and his love of food and his wish to put this part of South Wales on the culinary map are obvious and welcome.
La Plie is a must for all those who would normally travel to Monmouth or Abergavenny to find food of this quality. I firmly believe La Plie will join the pantheon of Michelin-starred restaurants in the near future.
Almost forgot; all this, plus two glasses of champagne (not to mention bottomless water provided free of charge - how wonderfully unusual) for £65. An absolute steal in my view.

I ate dinner here with 2 friends on 30th June, unfortunately there were only 2 other diners there, but the food was excellent. I had John Dory, caught in Cornwall, with roasted vegetables and a beautifully cooked razor clam, it was perfect. My friends had the local Lamb, and sea bass, and they both really enjoyed the food. I live near to London and often lunch/dine in Michelin starred restaurants, La Plie matched any of these very well. I do hope that Matthew is able to make a success of his venture in a very out of the way place but beautiful area.

Quite simply the best meal I have had for a very long time, in the UK, France or Italy. I highly recommend it. The lunchtime menu is particularly good value for money given the quality of the food and the cooking.

Matt Powell could give any Michelin starred chef a run for their money. His love and enthusiasm for cooking and feeding people not only infuses every plate of food put before you but is present in the atmosphere and environment he has created, helped by Alex at front of house. I've eaten there a number of times and for me the rhubarb dessert exemplifies Matt's skill and craftsmanship: layers of rhubarb flavour from a light, soft pannacotta through to an intense hit from the rhubarb dust and crisp, paper thin dried strips are crafted into a plate which delights the eye as well as the mouth. And of course, the other courses weren't bad either, full of lovely ingredients and brilliant cooking. Just go there and see for yourself!
