About Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery

Apple Pie is a café, restaurant, bakery and Bed & Breakfast situated in the heart of Ambleside, just adjacent to their own ensuite rooms. The business was launched 40 years ago and has been in the same premises and run by the same owners ever since. This kind of longevity could be down to the truth of their tagline – ‘Baking at its best in Lakeland'. Everything is freshly baked and prepared on the premises and Apple Pie is open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and snacks from 9am until 4pm. The venue also has a very busy trade in food-to-go for both locals and tourists. They offer a range of quality coffees and speciality teas as well as soups, sandwiches, filled rolls and cream cakes. There are also plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. But Apple Pie is most famous for its pies and Bath buns. The venue is quite large with 80 covers spread over a few rooms with space for another 25 outside.

Apple Pie Bakery is always my port of call when hungry in Ambleside. Pietastic!

This place is a little gem. And I’m clearly not the only person who thinks so as both the takeout counter and the large café area were packed all day.by the look of it. The Apple Pie is a bakery and café in the middle of Ambleside and I think it also has letting rooms too. Lovely feel to the place and friendly staff.

A great place to visit in Ambleside. It was very busy for takeaway and eat in, which tells you a lot. Our lunch was great, good food and service. The only complaint was from one of our party who felt the pie had been microwaved when reheated. Still he thought it very tasty

A legend in the Lake District for this family. Our children holidayed with us in the Lake District and we always end up eating and drinking here. Reliably good, consistent food, great drinks. Just what a cafe should be. The simple things done well. Atmosphere is warm on a winters day, our kids fell asleep whilst consuming hot chocolate, now affectionately known to us as "The Apple Pie Sleeping house"

Pricey, poor service, but great food. If you can put up with the prices and lack of service - ie. if you ain't in a hurry, the food is very nice.

Pie-tastic place! stocked up pre wansfell trek. fabulous to munch the pie in sleet on top of aforementioned fell! I'll eat in next time.
A unhappy customer
The Apple Pie looked inviting and was nicely decorated throughout. There was an ample number of staff and a few diners. Having been greeted by a member of staff on our entrance we took a seat, browsed the menu and waited to be served. After 15 minutes, no one came to take our order or acknowledged us again. We waited patiently for a further 10 minutes trying to politely gain the waiters attention, but we were continued to be ignored. We finally requested for our order to be taken when we were told we would have to wait until they had taken the order of another customer that had only walked in 5 minutes earlier! After waiting for 25 minutes, being ignored despite more than adequate staffing levels and now feeling rather hungry we got up and left and eventually find a very nice cafe called 'Lucy's on a Plate' which had staff that knew how to give good customer service. Unfortunately I cannot pass comment on any other areas of the Apple Pie only that the Staff are incredibly rude and that I will not be going back.

This is a very good place to eat in Ambleside. We were hooked after one visit. The staff are lovely and the food is great and good value for money. Try it for yourselves.

The best café in the Lake District. If you go to Ambleside you must go there at least once.
