We booked for mothers day in January and when we arrived they had no recollection of our name. The manager showed the book and we clearly found the name. They showed us to a table extremely rudely. couldn't believe he was the manager! never been made to feel so unwelcome. the food was ok. we got in at 12:30 and were out by 1:00. definitely wouldn't go back. wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the Stagger Inn Restaurant after I went with three others for lunch. It was awful, the starter (mushrooms with garlic and Stilton) was inedible as it was overpowering with salt. The waitress changed it for the liver pate and this had no taste at all, really discusting. The main meal was Steak pie with mushrooms and black pudding. Again the salt was too much but I ate it, the veg were awful. Must say that the Sticky Toffee pudding with ice cream was lovely but the bill of £92 was a lot to spend on such a rubbish dinner.

My wife and I chose the Stagger Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
We have visited here on several occasions previously and always found the food and atmosphere to be excellent.
The night did not disappoint and the friendly staff helped make our special occasion really enjoyable.

Excellent restaurant which is well worth seeking out. The steaks are superb, the staff are honest about the food and what to expect. The menu is surprisingly varied and every meal I have had has been thoroughly enjoyable and meat has been cooked to perfection. The portions are monstrous - if you are hungry this is the place to visit!
The atmosphere is intimate although it does try a little too hard to be characterful and some touches are a little over-the-top, but at least the effort shows. There is also a great little terrace out at the back of the restaurant where you can enjoy a drink (or a smoke, if you must!)
I cannot recommend this place enough for the meagre prices, but I would advise you book first however as I've struggled to get in a number of times even on a mid-week evening.

Party of 12 sitting at tables with not enough space. Duck breast and beef in stroganoff was tough. Poor quality house wine. Fried pasta was laughable! Very disappointing.

It is probably one of the better eateries in Cumbria, having tried a few. The whole atmosphere lends itself to an enjoyable food experience. My first choice to take visitors from South Manchester (Cheshire) which is where I originated. We always try to have different items from the menu but this proves quite hard because the previous visit had our taste buds drooling. Excellent value served by friendly, well organised staff,
