We stopped off here on our way home from a week in St.Ives. We had enjoyed eating a the Porthminster Beach Cafe whilst in St.Ives and since we were looking to spend 2 weeks in Polzeath next year wanted to be sure there was a beach side place we could have lunch at.
The waiting staff were friendly enough but the food was appalling. Our two children had dry cheese rolls which were £3.95. I had a very tired looking piece of bacon on a cheap white roll with a fried egg that looked like it had been fried some time ago. My wife's meal was the most disappointing however. She ordered the fish and chips at £9.95. Given the price we were expecting great things. I wouldn't have paid £2.50 at our local fish and chip shop. It was awful.
Most disappointing however was the chef's attitude when we asked for our money back. We were told that 'no one else had complained" and that he had tasted it and it was fine. I was told I couldn't have my money back since if he gave his money back to everyone who simply didn't like the way the food was cooked he wouldn't have much of a business. That says it all.
I am sure some people have had nice meals here but I wouldn't go back even a free meal.

Sun, Sea and the Salt Water Bistro, what a combination! Under new management, this restaurant now offers unpretentious, good quality food at the right price. The scallop starter with pea puree was cooked to perfection as were the steaks that followed, which were accompanied by excellent mushrooms. My vegetarian aubergine dish with mozzarella and tomatoes was also a winner whilst the chunky chips tasted of real potatoes. The Head Chef outshone himself with a dessert of passion fruit coulis and the chocolate pudding eaten by my son was apparently fantastic. With an excellent and reasonably priced wine list to complement the food this restaurant is certainly one to try soon.
