I used to go hear regularly about 40 years ago(if it is still the same Clarks) The fish is still as fresh as ever fried beautifully to a golden crisp finish. The chips are equally as nice. Coming down again the weekend and looking forward to my Fish & Chips.
Chris
The prices are ghastly and the portions questionably small.
The burger my partner had smelt rancid and the £1.90 tiny plate of chips I had were greasy.
The service was almost non existent (she was chatting to a friend at the time) and we were ushered into the front of shop after being told the rear was closed.
When my partner after having a particularly active day ordered a 1/2 pound burger, the 'chef' cried "HALF POUND BURGER?" at the top of his voice in apparent disbelief which made my partner feel 3 inches tall.
The meal came with chips and, having asked for chips with her burger, the 'waitress' came back and asked again if she wanted chips with her burger.
We weren't sure if she was being sarcastic or not but, after the incredulity of the chef, we were convinced she was.
Overall, we believe the food to be overpriced greasy rubbish, the staff attitude to be horrendously indifferent and the experience conducive of convincing us never to visit Southend-on-sea ever again.
In short we recommend that if you see Clarkes Fish Restaurant and you are starving having not eaten for 10 days and someone invites you in for a free meal, don't. It's not worth it.
