New name, new look for this semi-rural country inn at Blackrod.

After a long-awaited refurbishment, the Ridgeway Arms at Blackrod has been transformed into the Rivington Pub and Grill. The pub is a cosy semi-rural country inn and is the latest concept from local entrepreneur Adam Chapman whose other properties include Il Toro at Horwich, Strawbury Duck in Entwistle, The Sirloin Inn at Hoghton and San Marino in Belmont Long term-friend John Ghoka and Adam have formed a partnership with John handling the day-to-day running of the pub. It’s filled with original features, warm wooden furniture, high ceilings and roaring log fires. The restaurant is to the rear of the premises and seats up to 100 diners. The menu offers traditional English dishes prepared using the finest quality produce sourced from local suppliers, served in a comfortable and traditional dining space. Alongside the impressive list of local farmers, suppliers and producers, Adam Chapman prides himself on cultivating his own herd of rare breed saddleback pigs. And as he is a member of Belmont and Withnell shoots you will often find Pheasant, Grouse and Partridge amongst other game dishes available on the seasonal specials. The pub also holds a great selection of cask ales, from a range of local and micro-breweries. Within easy reach of Bolton, Wigan and Chorley, the Sirloin is the perfect place to bask in the best of British.

We were invited to join friends at this restaurant and so looked at it on the net. The reviews I saw made me a bit sceptic as to what to expect. The truth is I was very pleasantly surprised. None of the negative remarks made in the reviews were proven to be the case. We were warmly greeted and the restaurant manager was a cheerful, joking and courteous host who made us feel very welcome and appreciated. It was a very busy night and our starters took a little longer than would be expected but the manager came to us and profusely apologised and the popularity of this place was evident in that it is so well attended, I would think by regulars who have come back because of their previous experiences. The waitresses were also very attentive and polite I can only think that due to its recent launch it would, very understandably be a threat to any existing restaurants in the area and sometimes it is these restaurants who post negative reviews. I can’t be sure this is the case but it was certainly not the experience we had. By the way the food is excellent and presented beautifully. I would recommend it, try it out yourself and you will not be disappointed. I have no connection with the restaurant or its staff; I just wanted to be fair to them by adding my comments. Billinge Roamer I have been to this restaurant several times with my husband and it's been very pleasant. Last week we went with our children 5 and 7 and were met by who appears to be the manager asking us if we had booked when the place was clearly empty! In the end a lovely waitress showed us to a table and it was fine! Today I recommended the place to a friend travelling from Birmingham , she picked me snd the kids up and once again we went to this restaurant. As we walked through the doors, the same man came over told us instantly there was no room even though the place was virtually empty! I asked him what about all the empty seats to which he said they were reserved( this was 1645) so I'm sure this was not true! I know this place advertises the fact children eat free before 7 so whether or not he didn't want kids there I don't know but it was clear he didn't want us to stay! He was very rude and I will never return! This man turned away about £60 worth of business for what I don't know! He was extremely rude and made it clear from the start we were not welcome! Whoever owns this place needs to know this man is giving this place a bad name!!!! As this is our local we had every intention of eating there often but no never again!!!!!!! Hales Visited for a meal today. Not impressed with the waiters who were not very friendly or welcoming. It seemed as if they could'nt be bothered. I watched as they dealt with other customers and they could not be bothered showing them to their table or smiling at them. Food was very good, just need to train the staff to smile and be attentive. Johny Staff didn't look like they wanted to be there it was Mothers day. It was busy but waited for over an hour for food then when it came 1 of our party didn't get his food and they said they where sorry but they said they would rectify it. But between me and you they forgot to order it, portions where a bit measely and from a first experience won't be going again. j platt My friends and I visited the Rivington Pub and Grill on Saturday 12th January 2013. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and in fact couldn't do enough to help us even though the venue was extremely busy and we were late! The menu is extensive and varied and reasonably priced. Our food arrived quickly and was cooked or prepared to an excellent standard. We had a perfect evening in lovely surroundings and we will definitely visit again soon. I would highly recommend the Rivington Pub and Grll! Phil Bridge
