Famously named after the first adhesive stamp, the Penny Black Restaurant is housed within the Old Post House Hotel, which is located in the heart of the market town of Clitheroe. The hotel and restaurant has always been a popular choice with local groups like the Rotary Club and is now open to all with the launch of its new set lunch and dinner and A la Carte menus. Being in the Ribble Valley and close to The Forest of Bowland, there is a wealth of top quality produce on their doorstep and the menus make good use of this championing the local producers on their menu. The food is traditional British with hearty servings. Try chef patron Pru’s famous steak and kidney suet pudding or the slowly braised shoulder of lamb. They offer a grill selection with prime steaks, gammon, chicken and fish, all served with a choice of sauces and extras. If you fancy something a bit different and theatrical they also offer at-table Flambe. End your meal with one of Pru’s homemade desserts or a Lancashire cheese board.
