The Bull at Broughton, near Skipton, is the latest opening for Ribble Valley Inns, the upmarket gastropub group owned by Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft of Michelin-starred Northcote. The Bull joins sister properties The Three Fishes at Mitton, near Whalley, The Highwayman at Burrow, near Kirkby Lonsdale and The Clog & Billycock at Pleasington, near Blackburn. You can expect the same emphasis on freshness, quality and regionality that is the Ribble Valley Inns trademark, but this is very much a Yorkshire-inspired venue in its own right, as befits a hostelry that’s been a fixture of the Broughton Hall estate for some 400 years. A gluten-free menu is also available. If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the foodie, the Obsession Cook Book features more than 100 recipes from the 50 chefs that have cooked at Northcote’s Obsession Food & Drink Festival over the last 10 years. It's situated on the A.59. just a few miles from Skipton. Arrived about 1pm on a lovely sunny Friday afternoon. There were a lot of diners sitting outside at the rear dining area, but we decided to eat inside. The bar and dining area was tastefully decorated. There are a number of interconnecting dining "rooms" which I thought was very effective. The staff were very efficient and the food was up to the usual high standard expected of Nigel Howarth. The prices were also very reasonable for such quality food in great surroundings. Will definitely be returning. Brian H no special offers listed. says it all in this time of economic disruptions even the best places are making efforts to get new and possibly regular customers. been in customer services and retail business for many yrs and you have to make efforts to get them through the doors. Geordie After reading that Nigel Howarth had finally made it over to Yorkshire, thought I'd give this place a try. Arriving too late for the lunchtime menu we ordered from their Afternoon Bites selection which mainly consists of sandwiches and starter-style dishes. They seem to take great pride in the quality of their ingredients and the Yorkshire heritage of their suppliers... and justifiably so. Everything was excellent: couldn't fault any individual element of the Ploughman's, the chicken with stuffing and bacon mayonnaise was superb, and the hand-cut chips cooked in dripping were like proper chips should be. We might've expected standards to slip a little during this dead spot in the middle of the afternoon, but far from it. My colleague said it's one of the best lunches he's had in a long time and I'd have to agree with him. There's real skill on display in that kitchen and I'm looking forward to returning to sample their "proper" menus. And a quick mention about the quality of the revamp... it really is a lovely country pub with an excellent courtyard for the summer months, and inside the finish is to a high standard. To my mind, this is one of the best gastropubs in Yorkshire. Let's hope Howarth opens a few more. Lester Fontayne Excellent food and service. Cosy pub that welcomes walkers and dogs. They even have dog biscuits free for dogs! Guinea pig night highly recommended one Monday each month. Laura
