What a lovely little place! Not much from the outside but the welcome was very warm and friendly from the minute we walked in, and the food we had was spectacularly good (mussels, risotto and the saltimbocca in particular). The bill was a nice surprise too - very good value for the quality of food and drink. Aldo is not only a great chef but a friendly and funny host too. I'll forgive him for making my son want a rubik's cube soon. A little piece of authentic Italian charm in Clapham. For everyone who stays at the Travelodge on York Road, don't bother trekking miles to any other restaurant. Go see Aldo next door, you won't regret it!

Fantastic place in London, Just been down to London for the weekend for a family wedding; left Bristol at around 4:00pm and, with a hire car stacked to the brim with kids, we set off for a good weekend. Got to London at around 6:30pm and had a couple of beers in a pub - while we there we got chatting to some other guests who worked near to the hotel where we staying and they recommended a little Italian restaurant on York Road called Aldo? (220 York Road , South London, SW11 3SD - 02072 232277) - they recommended great food and great service and the fact that it was ?heap as chips?. So we piled off there with our tribe of kids, the youngest just six years old and starting to get a little tetchy and tired! What can I say! Credit where credit is due - they were fantastic! If any of you either live anywhere near or visiting South Battersea, Clapham Common/Wandsworth area I highly recommend the place. First of all the food - freshly baked proper Italian pizza the likes of which I have never ever tasted before. Simply delicious! And the red wine was well gorgeous, too!!! But for me the service was just outstanding. They were friendly and welcoming from the moment that we came in the door - but the best bit came about half-an-hour after we arrived. The guy who owned the place came out of the kitchen and started pressing out some pizza dough into a round and then started throwing it up in the air and making the whole thing grow out into a proper pizza base; next he gets our middle-son Matty up and makes him through the pizza up in the air - to say he was gob-smacked would have been an understatement. Matty sat down and the guy stuck the pizza base on his head and the cut two holes for eyes and a hole for his mouth; Matty was laughing his socks off! Next he stuck the pizza base on to the table and stuck some drinking straws under the edge and made all the kids blow the pizza base up like a big balloon. They loved itÅ and it didn? stop there; a coupe of time she came out and did tricks with our youngest son, Harry, and made conversation with us throughout the night. We ended up tucking into home made Italian Ice-cream and Tiramisu before picking up the bill for all 7 of us. It came to just £73.50? Again, if you are anywhere near Aldo? do yourself a favour and get some down ya!
