Desi Point in Levenshulme is a Pakistani restaurant offering a range of dishes from the subcontinent along with specialities from right across the Muslim world. So alongside the more familiar choices like Lamb Bhuna and Chicken Tikka you will find dishes such as Qabil Pulau from Afghanistan, a rice and meat dish garnished with carrots and sultanas. Choices from the VIP menu – which require 24 hours notice – include tagines from Morocco, Arabic-style roast lamb leg and potatoes (£60, serves 4) and Mandi, a real Saudi feast for (£250, serves 15-18 people). Desi Point is open from 12 noon until midnight Monday to Friday and from 10am to midnight at weekends. There is also free delivery for takeaway in the evenings within a four-mile radius.

Sindhoor in Burnage is Manchester’s first South Indian restaurant and is just a ten-minute drive from the Curry Mile. It specializes in Tamil, Kerala, Kannada and Telugu food and offers a truly unique menu which will be a voyage of discovery for fans of Indian cooking. There are 20 different dosas to choose from, starters like Chilli cauliflower, Chicken 65 (deep fried boneless chicken marinated with ginger, garlic, yoghurt and spices) and Masala fried fish and mains such as Fennel lamb, Fish moily (shallow fried fish cooked in a creamy coconut sauce; mild preparation), Kumarakon fish curry and Chicken mangalore (a special chicken curry from the state of Karnataka made with chicken and freshly grated coconut paste). Sindhoor is open seven days a week from 4pm-11pm and all the meat used in the restaurant is halal. There is also an event catering service available.

The Miramar in Levenshulme has been run by the same family since 1981 and over the years has built up a great reputation, attracting customers from across the northwest. It now has a sister restaurant of the same name in Swinton which opened in July 2009. The exterior of the Miramar in Levenshulme is typically Chinese but inside it’s light and airy with a modern feel. The menu is traditional Chinese in style but with all the dishes prepared using Miramar’s home-made signature sauces. There is also a good selection of wines on offer. The Miramar opens for dinner seven days a week and for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. It’s also very family friendly.
