Asiana - had a meal there last night, 3 of the guests in the party of 8 were 10 minutes late. The owner/manager came over to my table and greeted me with "you have this table 7-9.15, ok?" OH THE HUMILIATION! I was so concerned as 9pm approached as they hadnt cleared our main course dishes away. We finished of our food quickly and left as soon as the dishes were taken off the table, around 9.30 but there wasn't anyone waiting, so i assume someone hadn't turned up at all! Could he not have come over and said that they had managed to seat people elsewhere? He ignored me totally as we left. Bit of a cheek really as they add service charge to the bill, around £20! Having said that - its excellent food, and the waiting staff are very good. I do hope they are not going to spoil things with such pompous arrogance.

We had an evening meal on Dec 05 -2009
I had the smoked crispy chicken starter followed by the Crispy Mongolian Lamb with chilli oil dip.
The service was ultra quick and the food was fresh and perfectly cooked, extra credit for the lamb though as it was delicious.
Highly recommend and this is the best Asian restaurant in Sunderland!
Well worth the money

My partner and I went here for a meal, and we arrived at around 8pm without booking. The staff were very friendly and advised us that if we didn't mind waiting then we would have a table, which suited us fine as we could have a drink at the waiting area - consisting of very soft brown leather seats, away from the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant area. We waited for 45 minutes and then we were shown to our table. The view is spectacular, especially as the sun was setting over the river! We felt spoilt for choice event he menu was not big. In the end we ordered 3 starters - Crispy Lamb, salt & chilli squid, steamed scallops - the seafood is fresh as they are close to the seafood docks and apparently they get the seafood brought in quite regularly.. and you can really tell the difference!! For the main - which took us sometime to decide, we had Beef Rendang and Chicken Pataya with a portion of fried rice between the two of us! The beef rendang was served in an earthen pot, and tasted out of this world - its basically a very coconut based curry, creamy in texture with just the right kick - not too hot, but with a kick! The chicken was also very tasty although I have to admit we enjoyed the Rendang the most, so much so we were scraping every bit of sauce out to go with rice. This was all followed by a lovely dessert and a refreshing cup of chinese tea and my partner had a latte - which is unusual for a chinese restaurant to be able to provide. Everything we ordered was excellent! my partner is the worst critic when it comes to eating out, but he enjoyed every dish that we ordered, enjoyed the view, the decor and the friendly service!! A definite must if you are looking for somewhere to eat!!
