I went to Ciao Roma in a group of 21 people for my birthday meal.
The food was fine, better than the average Italian restaurant. The service, however, was appalling.
The service was slow all night, not just the slow relaxed service you expect when you're in a big party having fun, but very, very slow. And when the bill came, it was nearly £1000.
We checked the bill and were surprised to see that our party of 21 had been charged for 25 starters and 43 main courses, but we assumed it was an error and asked them to sort it out. They said the bill was correct. We explained that 21 people wouldn't have eaten 25 starters and 43 main courses and asked them to correct it. They said the bill was correct and that we'd have to pay the full amount.
Of course, there was no way we were paying for 4 extra starters and 22 extra main courses, but after arguing with them for nearly an hour, they refused to alter the bill. So we left £600, which was more than it should have been, and left.
I tried to sort it out with them over the next few weeks, but they weren't interested in putting things right. If you're going to eat at Ciao Roma, keep a very careful note of what you order.
