I love this restaurant I have eaten here with my family for years and love the food. I have 3 lads all big guys 17 19 and 21 and every time we go you can bet we all order the salt n pepper chicken pieces the best we have every found and a huge portion as well.
The staff are very attentive and courteous all in all the best Chinese in Liverpool (for us)

The service was terrible, but the food was really nice....let me explain.
Arrived here at half 7, ordered food by 7:45. Soup took 20 mins, then after the starter took another 20 mins to arrive. After the starters, I waited half an hour for the main meal...complained we had been waiting for ages...by this time it was 9:35pm!!! I went up by the kitchen to see the waiter...who seemed clueless. There were loads of people in the kitchen standing around having a laugh..it was a joke. We were told at 25 past 9 that the main would be out in 5 mins. I said if its not, we would have to leave it as me and my Girlfriend had to be somewhere (hence arranging the meal for 7:30pm). We couldn't wait any longer so when i was by the kitchen I asked for the meals to come in a doggy bag. It was 9:45pm by the time they came out with the meals. I noticed people on other tables arrived after us and had their meals brought out before ours did...so something had gone wrong somewhere.
Not once did we receive any sort of apology. Oh...and to top it off, they added a 10% service charge to the bill. I called the man over an said "is this a service charge"? before I even asked him to remove it he was marking it off with his pen....still not apologetic though. I said to him we have not had a good service and we have had to take our main meals with us as a result. The cheek of them.
I would not eat here again....but I will say the food is very nice. There are loads of other nice places too...and that's where we will be visiting in future.

Everything was excellent, food, service, decor. There were 12 of us trying the Mandarin for the first time as we normally go to China town. All agreed best Chinese we've eaten in a long time.
Champions Again
Our second visit to the Mandarin ,coincides with our visits to the Music festival. We dined there Sunday, an oasis from the drunken mob in the rain outside.
Outstanding value deal 9.99 (betwixt 3 -7 i think) for prawn crackers with dips ,sweet corn and chicken soup, spare ribs and pancakes, two superb main courses , egg fried rice and a couple of glasses of wine!!20 quid for two!!!!!!!!!
I have to say the quality of the food and the size of the portions were tremendous,we could have easily fed four.Highly recommended food wise anyway. We will definitely, come here again when were in Liverpool, although we may give the festival a miss now that the drunken mob have ruined it.
Red Man
I went with a large group of friends (22No) and we were easily accommodated for. All meals were served with good portions including starters. I had the Deep Fried Chicken pieces in corn pepper salt - very nice. But the Main meal was a bit bland - beef in black bean and green peppers, the beef didn? taste the best either. However would be willing to give it another try. all in all came to about £30 a head with plenty of booze included

My boyfriend and I recently tried the Mandarin after seeing the reviews on here and looking at the menu on the Internet. I was expecting a nice meal but I was not expecting it to be the nicest Chinese I had ever eaten! The first thing that struck me about the Mandarin is that it is very welcoming and very clean throughout. There are plenty of staff, all of whom are extremely friendly so we felt at ease straight away. I also really liked the fact that as soon as you sat down they immediately bring a basket of prawn crackers to your table free of charge! This was very nice as we were absolutely starving after having travelled around Liverpool all day! We went for the mixed starter of prawn toast, seaweed, chicken satay, spare ribs and spring rolls. All were absolutely delicious, especially the prawn toast which tasted so fresh and light, and the chicken satay. We tried to get the satay sauce recipe but it was the chef's secret! I also found the menu here very refreshing as it wasn't just full of your bog standard Chinese dishes. There were some Malaysian dishes on there as well as many variations of the Sizzling Platter dishes which we were very glad about as they are my favourites! We had the Chicken in Cantonese sauce on a sizzling platter and the Fillet Steak in Black Pepper sauce. Both tasted so fresh and very tasty, and the steak was cooked to perfection. I have had bad experiences in the past with stringy, chewy steak but this was nothing like that at all, it just fell apart in your mouth - delicious! We were also impressed with the extensive wine list, but went for our old favourite Pinot Grigio, which was lovely. On top of serving delicious food, the service in here is absolutely outstanding. The staff are always checking if you are OK, but don't overcrowd you and the food was brought very promptly and as I said before tasted very fresh. They are all very pleasant as well but not at all false. The ambience is also very relaxed and chilled and a perfect place for any occassion. We had a romantic meal for two and there were also families and parties in there, all of which the Mandarin caters for superbly. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you like Chinese then this is the place to go in Liverpool - I enjoyed it much more than the Chung Ku on the Albert Dock which I do think is a lovely restaurant as well, but the Mandarin exceeds here in every way.

I've eaten here countless times. I now bring my children(ages 14 and 6) the food is fantastic anytime of the day or night. We love the tofu dishes and the vegetables are just perfect. The table linen is pristine and the staff polite. I've often recommended this to my meat eating friends and as yet have not known anyone to visit just once.
Mandarin
Went to this restaurant with a works do, usually with there being so many of us (18) the food is normally bland. Not in this place the food was really nice I have been back since and yet again the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.
