Since my last visit that went pretty poorly in most respects Smollensky's on the Strand did something that most bars wouldn't, namely invite me back to discuss the events of that fateful evening! Some praise must go to Smollensky's on the Strand for a quite unexpected invite to return and talk with a senior member of staff about what happened that night, all this whilst enjoying complimentary food and drink. A warm reception was afforded to us and since that meeting the bar menu has been reviewed to take into consideration our comments on the value for money of many of the choices on offer and questions asked about the very poor level of service we received. This has gone some way to make up for the bad experience of my last visit but the odd question still remains, why the design of the stage if not to have live acts perform on it? Aside from this Smollensky's on the Strand has always been a top venue with stylish decor and the restaurant has always been good value for money and most importantly great food. Definitely give Smollensky's a try it's one of few central London venues we return to, and post a review, it's worth the effort!

I have been to Pierre Victoire many times over the last 4 years and it has never let either my friends or I down. The only negative is that they do tend to have set seating times and then can be irritating on a night when you just want to sit and be with friends. Aside from that, it is excellent value for money and has a great atmosphere with a pianist usually playing Friday nights.

Food was fantastic and the waiters were super friendly & helpful for non Bangladesh natives that we is, I hope to be go again soon

Kolapata – East London
Alain & company

Kolapata meaning banana leaf in Bangladeshi is a great restaurant for everyone! Waiters were polite & knowledgeable about the menu & were even able to make recommendations about how much food to order for our rather large group. The food was really good & the portions were just on par with what we needed. THE ambience is a bit different, walls are just plain white with neon green light hidden in the ceiling and some native music playing, they do however have a rather neat fish tank in the back portion of the restaurant. All in all I would say it was a great experience & I would return to Kolapata if ever in the area again.

Polanka is a fantastic restaurant. The food is good quality, freshly cooked and just much more tastier than English which everyone knows - is just too simple!

What can I say...without a doubt the best Thai food I have ever had outside Thailand! The variety of dishes is extensive and they're all equally priced at £6, regardless of whether you have a vegetarian dish (why would you?) or king prawns. Having travelled extensively in Thailand I can safely say that these guys serve it up as authentic as it gets and, as you would expect from the Thais, it's always served with a smile. Great food, great prices, great ambience...what more can you ask for?

Churchill Thai Kitchen – Kensington

Portal looks like a small venue until you step inside - it opens out to a gigantic glass conservatory filled with impeccably-dressed tables. Despite the large scale, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the owner Antonio always has time to greet us as we arrive. The menu's not overpriced - the seafood is the freshest I've found this far inland - try the squid, prawn and chorizo skewers on lemon rice and the custard tartlets are an exquisite dessert. Worth the extra dollar for a top notch city lunch!

The bridge to china town has many Chinese for everyone's style of food. It also is an halal restaurant. I recommend the mixed starter because it has seaweed, prawn toast, spring roll & deep fried chicken wings. I also recommend the sweet & sour prawns and King prawn chow mien.

This is an excellent Iranian/Afghan restaurant. It has a nice decor and it has very clean which can't always be said about some other Persian restaurants in London. The service is good and the staff very friendly. The food is delicious and the atmosphere just great on Friday and Saturday night with the live music. You get great value for money in this place. Last week I went to the famous Shehrezade restaurant in Kensington after quite sometime and it reminded me why I haven't been there for such a long time. Ok the decor and location and place is five stars and nothing compared to Ariana but the service, food and prices are just 1 star. We had to wait to get a table, then the service was terrible, the waitress was keep forgetting to bring something or the other, including forgetting the cattery, sometime that anyone with a basic waiting training should get right? There was three of us, we mostly went for the music, didn't eat much a got charged a small fortune, just the service charge was £15 which was a joke compared to the level of service. The food was not up to standard and disappointing. Then the following week I went to Ariana and what a surprise, the location I must admit is a bit run down but when you do make it inside Ariana, then you do enter a little word of good food, good service and good music and atmosphere and you can eat as much as you want too without breaking the bank. Conclusion: Shehrezade restaurant of Kensington = 1 Star * Ariana restaurant of Bourne Terrace = 5 Star *****

This was just as we expected. We ate on a Saturday lunch, at which they provide a good value 3 courses for £25. The food was really quite good and the service was excellent. There was a choice of 6 starters and 6 main courses, with 6 desserts and cheese and biscuits to follow. Although the food is good value, the drink is expensive, this is where you will spend money. Would definitely recommend it.

Quality traditional food made with fresh seasonal ingredients. A delightful lunch experience in quiet surroundings. It's almost a club atmosphere.
