I first visited it 11 years ago and was eager to introduce my new husband to the 'Duck' - it didn't disappoint. If you're just visiting for a pub lunch why not try the 'Ploughman's Lunch,' it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideAs locals, we have seen three incarnation of the Log House as a restaurant and it has to be said it has gone from strength to strength. The menu is well varied and the Mediterranean style suits the quality produce used. Heath Calman's cooking is a must!
Log House Restaurant – AmblesideThe food was to die for, unpretentious staff, family friendly but great for couples and adult parties also, cannot possibly recommend this fantastic restaurant more strongly!!!
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideThis is a fantastic little coffee shop in the heart of the lakes. The staff are extremely charming and smiley. There is an exquisite toilet that is entered only through a code with charming character! Enough said go and order a fine Mocha and see.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideOne of our favourites - has been in Ambleside forever, nice to see it flourishing as it deserves. Good service, good food (and we eat in Chinatown in Manchester). Reliably good, unlike some of the other Ambleside restaurants. We always eat here when we visit Ambleside.
Jade Garden – AmblesideWith exception of being devoured by midges I really enjoyed my Cumberland sausage and mash with a couple of exceptional pints of Jennings bitter. Both the midges and I had a fine feast!
Britannia Inn – AmblesideThis is a great place for lunch and to buy treats for your own larder!
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideThe best café in the Lake District. If you go to Ambleside you must go there at least once.
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideOne of our favourite pubs, with excellent choice of real ales and good food. Very busy at lunchtimes and early evenings. This is a pub to stay overnight and enjoy the relaxation in totality.
Britannia Inn – AmblesideA great stop off from many of the amazing walks in this area of the Lakes. This pub has real character and good food.
Britannia Inn – AmblesideI've been going to the lakes for 5 years now and my first arrangement will always be to ring and book a table. Excellent quality genuine Thai food at good prices in a quaint property in Ambleside. The owners have created a good ambiance and enjoy excellent and well earned levels of trade. Recommend you book ahead to avoid disappointment
Doi Intanon Thai Restaurant – AmblesideHad a dining experience, even though all were busy, and were able to use their Bar across the road while we waited - carried our wine back to the restaurant when the Bar received a call our table was ready. We even met Lucy after her night doing her outside catering bit. A great evening, Thanks
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideAfter being continually queue jumped at Chester's cafe at Touchstone interiors, we opted for the fine traditional cafe/restaurant which makes up part of the Lucy's deli in ambleside - fantastic food, warm Lakeland surroundings, and smiles from the waitresses. A glass of vino, some coffee, a light snack and some terrific cake for two - all for eleven quid - not too bad for the lakes - plus cosy and warm on a freezing day!
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideThe only problem with this place is that's is almost impossible to get accommodation in the summer. However this is a testiment to it's quality. A first class Gastropub!
Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideWe stayed the night here at this wonderfully isolated pub and i have to say they have got things just right. The danger in the Lakes is that things get a little too twee and chintzy but here the decor and design is contemporary without being at all out of place. The public bar is a delight, albeit a little small, the bedrooms are comfortable and luxurious and the food fully deserves its AA rosette. I even liked the 'designer' brown bathwater!
