The restaurant has a cosy traditional atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. Our main waitress, Sarah, could not have been more helpful. In fact, all staff were pleasant and attentive. The food, in terms of quality and presentation, while not cheap, was excellent. We dined on two evenings and both had venison for our main course on the first occasion. The meat was tender and tasty. On the second evening my wife had beef bourgignon and I had the steak. Both were excellent. We started with a drink at the bar. Loved the murals!

The Morritt is a beautiful building set in lovely gardens. To review our stay is a two sided account. We were greeted by a young women with less customer service skills required for that position. She was sharp with us and just unfriendly. Very poor first impression. We were early and we were instructed by the front desk to wait in the bar. We did and enjoyed talking with Dawn. Our evening meal was wonderful start to finish. Friendly and knowledgeable waitress and she answered a few questions we had about the menu. Our starter was the Chicken Liver parfait served with onion chutney and toasted French bread. Great presentation and every bite was delicious. Just the right size for a first course. Our main was a Roast Pork with fondant potatoes and the Red Sea Breen with spicy cuscus. We both were impressed with the presentation and the meal as a whole. Delicious food, just the right amount and the dessert did not let us down. We both had the pan a cotta and it was perfect to end the meal. The following morning provided us with the starkest of contrasts. The food from the steam cart was not great. The hashbrowns were soggy and greasy. The food was on the steam just too long. The utensils provided burns to our fingers. We were not told we could have ordered off the menu. Poor service and not good food. The ratings being asked for below are inadequate because we had two separate experiences. The evening was a 5 and the service was a 5. Breakfast was a 1 for the food and a 1 for the service. The atmosphere in the dining room at dinner was relaxing and very nice. Then during dinner we heard and saw dogs fighting and barking on the stairs and then again fighting outside our window after we had gone to bed.The room was fine and the bathroom provided a nice shower. The Morritt should invest in new pillows for the rooms They were completely flat and just old. You have a tremendous setting and such potential. When we made our reservation it was for a supreme king room for £94.00. When we arrived we asked for a first floor room and the receptionist said she only had a suite on the first floor. She told us it would be £20.00 more and we agreed that we would take the suite. When we checked out the cost of the room was £164.00. We were surprised to say the least. Management needs to sort some of these issues out. Unfortunately this means we will not come back to The Morritt. Please tell the Chef that his food was the only highlight of our stay and we appreciate all it takes to provide that excellent menu.

Very nice afternoon Tea would have been nice if the waitress had returned after serving us to see if every thing was ok. We left when we had finished our tea without seeing anyone which was strange. Only two other people in the Restaurant they arrived when we About finished so not much atmosphere.

We were very happy with our Sunday lunch in the Dining Room, it was so tasty and plenty to eat and our Sweet was delicious. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Sunday meal to our friends. The service was excellent and the waitresses were friendly.

I chose the duck, which was grossly undercooked, as were the limited amount of vegetables. There was a tablespoon sized portion of mash. I was very disappointed, and hungry after the meal which I had to eat as I was even more hungry when I ordered it. At £18 it is VERY overpriced!
